Taking ibuprofen right after I check out from the hospital

So my doctor told me I can take both Tylenol and ibuprofen every 3-6 hours in rotations. I thought you are not supposed to have ibuprofen because you can develop stomach ulcers. What should I do?

Everything I'm seeing is saying not to for at least the first 6 months. I was told that too by my doctor. You should definitely do what your doctor says. But if I were in your shoes, I'd bring it up with my doctor and make them explicitly say it's not a problem for you. They're not perfect, it could be a mistake.

Yea. I had a doctor tell me to take Alieve (I think it was Alieve) for something post op roght after we discussed my surgery. I was like I’m not allowed to take nsaids he was like ooh yea. So even doctors make mistakes so I would just say I just want to clarify cause I was told no before.

Your doctor told you or your SURGEON told you? You doctor may not know the rules of WLS. You should definitely follow what your surgeon tells you over your doctor, in regard to the surgery.

funny thing is after my surgery while in the hospital i was given celebrex a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory up until my discharge. After discharge i was prescribed Hydrocodone for pain tho it was not needed since the main pain was from the air in your chest which pain medication does nothing. my surgeon said that NSAIDS were not to be taken for gastric bypass people. and for sleeve people on a very limited amounts.

funny thing is after my surgery while in the hospital i was given celebrex a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory up until my discharge. When does this air from your stomach goes away. My surgery was yesterday. I am walking but I’m having a hard letting the air out. The only thing I am doing is burping.

I didn’t have it but from hanging out here I have learned that the pain medicine doesn’t do anything for the gas pains anyways. I have heard that heating pad and gas ex can help some but the only thing that really helps is waking.

about a week. Some take longer, Some take less time. BUt walking is all you can really do to help get it out.

Listen to your medical team. They know your medical situation while no one else does.

If you don't trust them then change them. This applies to your medical team, your friends, and your strangers.

My doc allowed NSAIDs for me. Acetaphetamine (Tylenol) was to be avoided. My doc was more adamant that internet med lists, supplement lists, and plan rules were to be ignored. His rules, meds, supplement were based on my needs and to ignore the rest.

I suggest you do the same with your medical team.

My surgeon gave me permission to take nsaids after two years but only on rare occasions & never consecutively. I’d certainly contact your surgeon & question the ibuprofen advice just to be sure. Most find they don’t need pain meds at all by day 4+/- so maybe your surgeon said yes to ibuprofen because it’s only for a couple of days???🤷🏻‍♀️ But the concern for your healing & sensitive tummy to bleed & develop ulcers would worry me.

As for how long the gas pains last, just take as long as they need to escape your body. Pain meds won’t alleviate that pain at all. Walk, try gas X, heating pads, marching on the spot, raising your arms up & down can help. I had no gas pain after my sleeve, but after he took my gall oh boy. It took a good week to completely disappear.
