Does Anyone Take Collagen Peptide Powder along with Your Protein?

Recommended Posts

I have ordered the collagen Peptide powder from BariatricPal. I already do 2-3 smoothies a day with frozen strawberries and unflavored Protein Powder. They are delicious. I use to drink ensure until I started to dislike / despise them.

collagen peptide is considered an incomplete Protein & won’t count towards your protein goals. It lacks many of the essential amino acids. Whether it helps with hair, skin, etc. is another question.

I added collagen (& silica) to my yoghurt for about 5 months I think. Don’t think it really did anything though. Certainly didn’t change the texture of my new Hair growth. (It won’t stop the post surgery Hair loss as that hair is already dead & meant to fall out it just falls out faster for a couple of months.). My nails weren’t stronger. I upped my facials & did some other treatments to stimulate collagen production as well but I can’t say any of it really did anything except a temporary short term glow & plumpness. You might have a totally different reaction.

It’s not uncommon for you to look drawn & notice additional wrinkles & facial creases while you are losing. But once your weight has stabilised, you’re eating more & a broader diet & your body seems to redistribute your weight you will look a lot better. I went from being told I looked like death while I was losing in my first year when taking the collagen to looking beautiful in my second year when I wasn’t taking it (according to my outspoken uncle 🙄).

Thank you. I also do a gang of protein daily. I am just starting the collagen. I will see what happens. Getting the collagen from BariatricPal, not Walmart. Will seeing it works.

I had read that collagen was an incomplete protein also but I do have a question. If it is taken in addition to our daily protein goals, could it offer some help in the future? I'll have to add that to my list of things to do some more research on, which is getting longer by the day. 😋

I put a scoop of collagen in my coffee every morning, and I feel like it's made a difference in my skin and hair. I slacked off on using it for a month or so and feel like my skin looked noticeably "saggier". My hair regrowth has been fantastic, my hair was on the thin side before my surgery but it's now growing back thick and oddly, curly! In addition to the collagen, I take a pretty big dose of Biotin alongside my Multivitamin (6000 mcg) and that seems to be helping.

I have a serving of the Verisol collagen bioactive peptides by Betha inc. in my coffee every morning. It was ConsumerLab's top pick. I don't count it towards my Protein goal for reasons people explained above. I have been using it for almost two years for my skin. It helps with my skin elasticity.

I take a great collagen from 1st Phorm, I also use their Proteins. They have great flavors that I rotate between to avoid getting tired/sick of them. Highly recommend people trying them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
