My plan allows anything after 3 months in moderation.. I'm 2 years post op and I occasionally have cake, ice cream, or whatever. I don't really like pizza but it's something I will eat if everyone wants it so I have had that too..
I make healthy choices 95% of the time, and allow myself a treat now and then. I think in order for this to be a lifelong lifestyle change it needs to be that way, at least for me.

I should add that I tolerate most foods pretty well, except excess fat will give me diarrhea since I had the SADI-S. I don't absorb fat as well. It doesn't stop me from having an occasional ice cream though!

AGREED! My dietician is the exact same. He made and posted a video in our support group a few weeks ago about this exact thing. No one is going to successfully live off of chicken and broccoli forever. The point is to learn moderation. He went on to talk about a patient that is 4 years post op and has maintained her weightloss and eats a regular ice cream sandwich every weekend for a treat. Because she does it once a week and has 1 rather than every day or having multiples.

I still have the occasional treat but on a drastically lessor scale than before surgery. I don't use sugar free Condiments because I barely use them anyway.

You have to find what works for you, and the chicken and broccoli diet does not work for me. I have lost 100+ lbs multiple times this way, always gaining it back.

I am committed to a normal healthy diet which includes everything and some things in moderation. Learning and maintaining portion sizes and continuing success.

Good luck to us all!

I'm not sure if I have bumping syndrome or not but am to scared to really find out but I don't limit what I eat just how much and what kind. I was told 9 grams of sugar per meal. I think if you take everything you like you won't be as successful at least I wouldn't. I eat bread just not a lot I eat pizza just not a lot I eat ice cream just eat the bryers carb smart. I made cake and Cookies with Monk Fruit sugar instead. I found sugar free cookies. And I think I'm doing good it's been 8 months since my bypass surgery and I'm down a 116lb and have 14 left to go.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
