OMG 1/4 c? How often? That's cruel and makes no sense to me. Once the swelling is down, liquids go right throu your band. how could you possibly be full on that?

I used to drink a whole can of a Protein Shake, slowly, but the whole can. And I had a hernia repair at time of band placement. My swelling took about four or five days to go down. During the swelling, I didn;t have much hunger.

No wonder you're struggling and hungry.

First you need proper restriction to feel full and that comes with "fills". Second, your pouch must be filled with "solid" food, not "slider" foods that go through the pouch easily.

Then we have to learn a new feeling of "full", becasue it's not our lower belly that gets full anymore.

And we can get confused with "head hunger". Head hunger tells your stomach things like, "you can't be full on 3 oz of meat". We are so used to large portions, our head tells our bodies we'll starve if we don't eat more.

As you reach restriction, you really have to start listening to the signals, your pouch sends to your brain. It really is a process and it takes time.

So my answer to your question... is oh yeah, all the time!

After reading and re-reading the diet, I can have 3-6 liquid "meals" per day. Only have meals when you are hungry! Liquid meals are any fluids which are not Clear Liquids.< /strong> It also says that You are taking in 40-55 ounces of Fluid at this time. 30-40 ounces should be clear, non-caloric liquids such as Water, crystal light, diet Snapple, coffee and tea. Do not count coffee or tea unless it is decaffeinated. Caffeinated coffee or tea are dehydrating and will not count in your total fluid intake. It then goes on to say: Remember that you must take in at least an additional 30-45 ounces of clear liquid fluids between the "meals" listed above. This is extremely important for preventing hydration.

CTman,

You are on your way! Congrats! I feel so fortunate that my recovery this week has been smooth. No pain killers at the hospital or at home. My husband asked me why I haven't used the liquid tylenol with codeine that he picked up at CVS. The reason is I didn't need it. I think that is wonderful news and encouraging for those of you taking this journey soon. I am PLEASANTLY surprised!

Tina, So can you eat more? I sure hope so! You have to fuel your body.

So glad your pain has been minimal.

You're on your way!

Yes, I guess I can add additional 1/4 cup liquid meals. I can have up to 6 a day as well as the additonal clear fluids.

I am done another pound! 15 1/2 since my pre-op diet which includes around 6 since Monday. WOO HOO!

glad to hear there was no pain. I remember when I had my gallbladder out I wanted to scream with the pain and they didn't give me any pain killers back then. I start my preop diet on 3/2. I can have cottage cheese and Protein Drinks, jello:thumbup: and yogurt. I was surprised.

Shortgal: Thanks, I'll check out the January 08 forum also, thanks.

Sharona: Thanks for the welcome, these forums are so helpful. It also lets me see that so many doctors vary in this whole process. I'm also only allowed a 1/2 cup of food at each meal and it was puzzuling me how individuals can get in 800 - 1000 calories a day.

Osangriared,

My post-op (banded 2/11) only allows for 1/4 cup full low-fat liquids per meal.(I can have up to 6 a day.) Needless to say, I can't wait for my post-op visit on 2/27. Hopefully, I will get the okay to advance to the pureed stage. :( When was or is your surgery?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
