Thing I miss most

I have my teams consent to try a few sips to help with my Protein. A warm coffee does help with chewing the meats

That's the hardest adjustment for me, too. I'm not 100% compliant, but I'm doing my best -- literally watching the clock after meals most days until it's "legal" to wash it down.

I feel like I have given up a lot since starting this journey. I don't mind most of them. Mostly because I feel better and down 103 pounds. However I really really miss drinking while I eat.

I miss this as well. Or more specifically, having a cocktail at a restaurant while waiting for my meal. Small sacrifice, but something I really miss.

It’s hard isn’t it but I am getting used to it. The thing I miss the most is fizzy drinks. I really thought I would miss cakes and chocolate etc but no it’s an ice cold fizzy drink on a warm day.

I drink fizzy drinks. My surgery center said new research indicated that there was no issue, so they allow it a month after surgery, if it feels okay.

I read an article recently from a nutrition journal (one designed for nutritionists) that said that there's not much evidence for separating food and drink long term. However, I find it uncomfortable to drink after eating. I'm getting used to it, but before surgery I would usually drink several big glasses of Water or diet soda with my meals

I thought separating drinking from eating would be really hard for me - and it was at first - but i got used to it pretty quickly. I'm seven years out and still separate them.

I miss being able to eat a huge meal if I wanted. We are going on a cruise soon and I'm a little sad I won't be able to really enjoy the 4+ course meal at dinner. However, I am never really hungry or have cravings so this is totally a mental thing! I love that food isn't a constant thought for me anymore, but I wonder if I will ever mentally not be addicted to food.

I miss that when walking in crowds everyone used to just organically get out of my way. Now I have to trudge through like everyone else.

There are times I miss being able to eat some particularly wonderful food in ridiculous volumes. Now I enjoy what I can and move on satisfied.

There's a lot more I definitely don't miss. And even more I don't remember.

Good luck,

Tek

I am further out than you, but I went to a fancy, 7 course meal recently with my family. I just ate a little bit of each course. The Soup I didn't care for at all so I just didn't eat it. I ate more of the things I really like and less of the thigs that weren't great (before I would have eaten every bite!). I didn't finish anything, even dessert, and that was fine. I was more full than I would have been after a normal meal, but I didn't get sick.

THIS is what I was hoping to hear somewhere on here. I'm really struggling with not drinking while I eat. I have dry mouth because of meds I take, so I tend to drink a lot ALL this time. It's hard to eat without drinking anything at all, but I was told it's just something I'm going to have to learn to deal with it. At least I can look forward to maybe being able to drink, even a little, with my food further down the road.

I have dry mouth from meds too, but I haven't really been able to drink with my meals. I find that drinking before I eat and eating wet foods (like fruits and veggies, stews, etc) works just fine.

It’s definitely tough but you can do it! There is so much variation among practices and even case by case. I was given clearance to eat/drink at the same time after I asked for a definitive answer. For my specific circumstance it was ok because I had a stricture dilated (after VSG to RNY revision) and my anastomosis wasn’t going to stretch any further than they forced it during the procedure. I was told that the concern is sleeve/pouch stretching earlier than it would take to naturally relax.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
