when people may ask why the Band? Or "Why would you choose the 'easy' way?" "Why not just exercise or eat less?"

FAT: What No One Is Telling You - Watching: Chapter 1 | PBS

VERY interesting special. I got the link from another board. There is a LOT of information about the dynamics of obesity, how our brains work in regards to such, etc. Long special, but you can watch it in chapters. I like to be armed with knowledge and I think this will come in especially handy if I choose to one day tell my family I got the Band and they have a bunch of "why" questions. Watching this truly has solidified my confidence in my decision of the Band. I had a thought when watching this. That I didn't choose the "easy" way, I chose the "SUCCESSFUL" way for me - a way that I can keep this off for life and not have to worry about gaining it all back again!

The band is not the easy way out, that's for sure! I hate when people say that. I usually tell them what I went through to get banded: the testing, liquid diet, some complications, etc. After that they don't think that way anymore. Plus, you don't have to be successful with the band. I know someone who "ate right through" his band and gained all his weight back. Losing weight is still a choice with the band. You still have to work your ass off. You still have to eat less. The band is just a tool- like WWers or Jenny Craig, etc. You still have to make a conscious decision to make it work!

Ug. This REALLY bugs me...although no one has told me, personally, that it was an easy way out. I live in a small town, so I think lots of people know how EASY it is...yeah...working out at least an hour every day (most of them don't do that!), eating small amounts, very rarely drinking alcohol, and (mostly) choosing healthy foods! When people say that, just tell them how hard your work out and choose to be healthy! All a band is...is a tool...like your GYM membership. If you don't use it, it won't work!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
