SleeverSk 635 Posted June 11, 2022 😢 So the local show is on (fair for those in the US) and I started out good, I had a dagwood dog ate 3/4 threw the rest away, had a small cup of soft serve ice cream with choc- sherbet topping didn't finish it. Now this is where I fell down bought 2 yes 2 pizzas to take to work with me (nightshift) only ate half of one over the course of a 12 hour shift BUT ate a whole packet (big) of twisties , a litre of coke, a cupcake, a slice of ice-cream cake (left over from someone's birthday) 2 sausages (left over from BBQ) and 100g caramel coated popcorn and not once did I feel full 😧. jumped on the scales today, 69 gone hello 70 😭Now I am trying to not beat myself up over it but gee its hard to stop when you start down that slope of mindless eating. I know we all slip up none of us are perfect and now I am telling myself Just because you can doesnt mean you should. I cant believe I drank the coke as I ate the twisties without an issue didn't feel bloated or anything 🤔and a whole packet OMG. I get what you were saying now Sleevdiva2022. I was thinking darn it come on sleeve kick in and stop me from doing this lol. Tonight ( nightshift again) hasn't started off any better. Thank goodness the pizza I bought wasn't very nice or I feel I might have finished it off tonight. I hate nightshifts that aren't busy I am always wanting to eat from boredom. Possum220 230 Posted June 11, 2022 Mmmm Twisties. As a nurse that works long hours you need fuel to get you through the night. Plan some good Snacks. Ones that make you feel good on the outside and good on the inside. You have put your body in a much better place by your persistence and hard efforts. You are a star at doing this. 1 1 SleeverSk and Crisscat reacted to this
Toesinthewater 31 Posted June 11, 2022 Unfortunately the binge slope is a very slippery one. Once you start, it can go down hill fast. I know from experience! So it's best not to start in the first place. I know it's hard to do because unfortunately WLS does NOT prevent returning to old habits. Don't beat yourself up. Bad days are going to happen. 1 SleeverSk reacted to this
learn2cook 592 Posted June 11, 2022 Slip ups happen to everyone. I found I could no longer work nights anymore. As soon as I stopped, 10lbs came off and stayed off. Melatonin and cortisol levels get all mixed up, I think we all know this at this point. I kept the snacking limited by eating “breakfast” at midnight. I prepared healthier Snacks that didn’t trigger a binge, and left all money and bank cards at home, even deactivated the Apple Pay. Best of luck! 2 1 summerseeker, SleeverSk and lizonaplane reacted to this
Spinoza 1,453 Posted June 11, 2022 Shift work is the absolute devil - do you do it all the time? Anyway - one day's slip up means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in the grand scheme of things @SleeverSk Just get back on the horse tomorrow. You've learned something (that slider foods do slide down REALLY nicely) and you will use that moving forwards until you reach goal - the goal that YOU want to reach. We all have better days and worse days - look at what you have achieved over the last 10 months - unbelievable. 3 2 Arabesque, SleeverSk, lizonaplane and 2 others reacted to this

Yes I have been doing shift work for 20 years now and before surgery if I took more than 4 weeks leave I found once I returned to a normal sleeping pattern I would drop 2 to 3 kgs in the time frame only to have them come back after a couple of weeks back at work. . Thank you yes I am pleased with my progress but really worried by how easily it could all be undone . 2 learn2cook and Spinoza reacted to this
Arabesque 7,442 Posted June 12, 2022 It’s okay. You recognise what happened & why. This puts you ahead of someone who denies it. You’ll know how to handle similar situations in the future better. And having a few twisties (oh the memories - cheese only never chicken) as a treat now & then is ok. You have to be able to live & enjoy your life. Now the important question: which show bag is your favourite? Bertie beetle? Fredo frog? I always got the snakes alive bag. Actually I recently had the same discussion about work putting arbitrary restrictions on when you can eat & forces your body to metabolise food & function in ways that may be unnatural for you. I’ve never had to do night shift (don’t know how you do it), but now I don’t have to get up & eat Breakfast at 5/5:30am, I feel much better in myself. My body seems happier eating breakfast at 9ish. While I eat 99% of the time to a schedule, it’s the routine my body likes. My body clock very much responds to daylight so not getting up in the dark half the year is more energising too. 1 Spinoza reacted to this
learn2cook 592 Posted June 12, 2022 Aside, now I’m curious about what these “twisties “ are??? I was thinking licorice twists but now I must be wrong??
Arabesque 7,442 Posted June 13, 2022 They’re a crunchy twisty cheese or chicken flavoured snack created in Australia. If I remember correctly they used more natural flavours then chemical ones. So yummy. You’d get some of the flavour coating on your fingers & have to lick them after. Found in some SE Asian countries & I think the UK as well.

ShoppGirl 5,024 Posted June 13, 2022 I worry so much about this happening to me too because I eat and I can eat again 30 minutes later. Good news is it was just once so far and you know that you don’t want to continue doing it. Do you have any idea what brought it on? Was it an emotional reaction or just purely boredom?? Maybe you should bring a bunch of healthy Snacks so you at least have the better option available. I eat when I am board too and I honestly haven’t found an answer except for lower calorie snacks which isn’t perfect i know. 1 Clara Paulson reacted to this
lizonaplane 1,613 Posted June 13, 2022 I find I have a lot of trouble with slider foods when things go out of my control - like when flights are delayed or canceled and my schedule is up and the air. It doesn't help that all the stores in the airport sell chips/crisps and candy! This is such a hard beast to tame, this binging... I wish there was a simple answer! For me, I know once I buy the junk food, I'm going to eat it, and I'm going to eat it in one sitting... so for me it's better not to buy it (of course, that's easier said than done!). Shift work is so bad for our bodies, but it's a feature of so many jobs! I wish you the best of luck managing this. 1 1 Summermoose and SleeverSk reacted to this
