sprukop0924 65 Posted June 6, 2022 I am in week 4 post-op. Looks like I'm getting anywhere between 400-850 calories per day. Struggling to get my Water in this week and, sometimes, my Protein if I'm not careful about tracking my progress throughout the day. I've resorted to using a timer every 15 min to cue me to drink and to stop/start 30 min before and after meals. 1 Stefan15 reacted to this
The Greater Fool 2,054 Posted June 6, 2022 Wow, I am precisely 7,000 days post-op today! Thanks for noticing, you're too kind. Calories per day? This will be the 7,000th day post-op I haven't counted calories. Good luck, Tek 3 1 lizonaplane, FarfelDiego, doobie31 and 1 other reacted to this
catwoman7 11,221 Posted June 6, 2022 I'm seven years out, but we were told not to count calories the first year. You're able to eat so little - and your Protein needs are so high - that there's no way you're taking in very many calories.
Arabesque 7,442 Posted June 7, 2022 I didn’t count calories but did do random checks for my own curiosity. I was eating less than 300 the first month. Was around 800/900 when reached maintenance at 6months on a good day. I eat about 1400 now at 3 years (but I’m not very active). But that is me. You’ll notice a fair bit of variation in what people could do & what then what they need to do to maintain. Some plans really push to increase calorie intake while others like mine don’t. If your plan doesn’t specify specific caloric plan but you’d feel more comfortable & confident with what you’re doing with caloric advice, ask your dietician &/or surgeon for some additional guidance. Remember though, you can only eat what you can physically eat. Otherwise, focus more on getting your Protein (& water) in & watch portion sizes & food choices. 2 Tomo and Spinoza reacted to this

lizonaplane 1,613 Posted June 7, 2022 9 months post op and I eat 1100-1600 calories a day.
Spinoza 1,453 Posted June 9, 2022 6.75 months post op and I eat 1000ish calories on weekdays and 1200ish at weekends (alcohol). I still track every bite that goes into my mouth I know lots of people don't or don't have to. I have lost approximately 2lbs per week since my surgery, give or take. 2 Tomo and baygoss reacted to this
Tomo 1,195 Posted June 15, 2022 I love these types of posts. Always good to see what everyone else is doing. I'm at 10.5 months, averaging 967 calories per day. I track everything because it's enlightening and fun for me but I am envious of those who can intuitively eat, which I know for a fact, I can not. Every month I've been upping my average calories till I get to a comfortable maintenance level. It'll probably be about 1400 to 1600 calories based on calculating what I'm eating & losing the past couple of months. 1 Arabesque reacted to this
DonnaGS 58 Posted June 16, 2022 I track everything I eat on MYPlate because it keeps me honest. I'm almost 4 months out and average 800-1200 calories a day. I've lost 30 lbs so far, this isn't much but before surgery was losing 1/2 pound a month, so not complaining! 1 Tomo reacted to this
Sunshine Princess 203 Posted June 16, 2022 Heading into 5 weeks out from surgery and my calories are anywhwere from 480-700 per day. I focus more on getting 70-80 grams of Protein per day and meeting my Water goals.
fourmonthspreop 510 Posted June 18, 2022 I'm 4 months and some post op from gastric bypass. I average about 950 calories a day although some days I can barely reach 700 and others I can have 1200. It just depends on my restriction. I always aim for 60-80 grams of Protein but im happy if I can get 60 in a day.Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
bestdecisionmade 12 Posted June 21, 2022 I'm nearly 3 months post op and I eat between 1100 and 1300 calories a day. I've never stalled in my post op weight loss and my surgeon, dietician and I believe it's because I eat this level of calories.
