Speaking of Fairlife, has anyone tried their bottled ‘nutrition’ drinks? 30g Protein, and they taste exactly like chocolate milk, I mean EXACTLY. Zero aftertaste. Sooo frickin delicious. I’m ordering online to try the other flavors. Premier Protein is ok for me, but the Fairlife ones absolutely taste like a cheat.

My costco has them in boxes in the Protein Shake area next to PP, they don’t come refrigerated.

The vanilla ones taste like melted ice cream. I totally agree, they def. taste like a cheat & I love that they have so much protein/

I just miss eating.

So much this. Even now, almost 6 weeks post surgery - sometimes I get depressed because now I only eat to fill the pouch. I don't get to eat to ENJOY food anymore. I know this is a mental thing - and part of my problems to begin with - but it's so saddening.

I have been feeling the same way lately. I suppose we're not supposed to enjoy eating anymore. It takes like 3 bites to fill my tummy. how do you enjoy that? Mindful eating doesn't help either

Hi everyone! My VSG was done on July 28. I would love to stay connected to people on a similar timeline as well. Is anyone else experiencing hunger? I felt it immediately in recovery in the hospital and it is real stomach growling hunger. I am taking my PPI. I think I’m weighing myself too much (daily) and am at the 3 week stall. Wish you all good luck.

Hi there, My VSG was July 12. I have had hunger but not from the beginning. For me it seems to be associated with Carbs. Try to stay low on carbs. Drink lots of Water (as much as you can). I am finally at my 3 week stall (Week 6) and it is frustrating. I'll try to be patient but this would be where I would normally decide screw it, I'm working hard and no progress. Luckily, I can't very well say that now cuz I can't eat much no matter what I feel like. I'll hang in there for the journey. I'm certain it gets better and I'm glad I can't say screw it this time.

Hi I had my VSG on 7/19/22. I did not experience the hunger because I was not able to keep down Water for 2 days. The worst! However, it got much better on the 3rd day. I weigh myself every Monday as a gauge to stay on track. I also measure myself for non-scale victories (NSV) as this helps me to not just focus on the scale. I did hit the 3 week stall but pushed through by walking/drinking more.

Hi everyone! 6 week update! Since my surgery (7/12) I'm down 35 lbs and 6 BMI points! I feel a lot more satisfied now that I'm able to eat soft foods. My issue is more with the healing, and getting used to, the hiatal hernia repair.

Pic on the left is the day after surgery. The other picture is of my husband and me on a date last weekend. Huge difference!

NSV: reduction to BP meds, could *almost* fit a regular towel all the way around my waist

I regret nothing! I feel great@IMG_20220712_170747_01.jpg 20220819_191634.jpg

Hi everyone, checking in to see how it’s going!

I’m just about 5 weeks out. I lost 27 lbs in the first 3 weeks … and haven’t lost any weight in the 2 weeks since. I wish I had taken Tek’s advice not to weight myself 😩

Hi! Congratulations on the weight loss 👍🏻 I had my surgery on 7/28 and had lost 13lbs by 3 weeks then nothing for 10 days. Now at 4 weeks I’m at 18lbs. Every bit of advice I’ve gotten or seen from people ahead of me on this thread or others has helped so much. I don’t weigh myself every day now and I’ve taken the phrase “ be compassionate with myself “ to heart. Just last week I was on here wondering if my surgery was successful and now I’m feeling much better about it. Hang in there, from what I’m reading these stalls happen to all of us.

Hello!

I just had VSG surgery on July 11th, so I guess that makes me 7 weeks post-op! I'm currently in the "Mashed Food" phase until September 12th when I can start "Easy to Chew Foods". I like that mashed food is a bit more like real food than liquid or pureed, but it still feels really limiting. I don't mind eating small portions, but everything I eat basically has to be refrigerated and I can't wait to get to a phase, maybe? where I can eat some convenience foods, aka throw something in my purse in case I get hungry or I need to eat and a restaurant doesn't have what I need.

Anyway, you can see most of my details in my profile, but I can't fill out some of it, which is weird. I'm not pre-op obviously. Oh I know...I lost 30 lbs prepping for surgery by walking, eating smaller portions and practicing the 30 minute waiting and such, oh and more Water and no diet soda. Since my surgery I've lost another 35 in the last 7 weeks, I'd say that's not bad! My most recent bariatric nurse appointment was positive and she said that I'm ahead of the curve.

I think I'm losing weight faster because I'm absolutely horrified by vomiting and I may hold back a bit because I don't want to get sick. My local friends that have had WLS said if I've gotten this far without vomit, I've probably done a good job following the rules and its not going to happen to me. I do once in awhile get the pressure in my chest, but then I either don't eat that thing again for a few more weeks or I eat a portion of less than 1/4c.

Has anybody come up with any "life saving" types of recipes or convenience foods that they like???

I like low fat cheese. Have mozzarella sticks and cheddar sticks. I also found Colby jack cheese in a b=ck. I just cut it up in little cubes and put it in a ziploc in my purse or lunchbox.

Thanks Bridge! Do you think I can eat those if I’m on “mashed” foods, or should I wait til I get to “easy to chew” foods?

hello there!

I am 6 weeks out, and have lost about 18 lbs.

I lost 7 lbs the first week, then nothing for 3 weeks. I just continued on the plan, although felt very frustrated. And now i'm losing about a pound every day or two.

I'm sure you'll get there too!! Keep on the good path!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
