Congrats and good luck!

All I can say is that after two surgeries in five years (sleeve, then revision to bypass) I've never thrown up from overeating. A few times if I ate more than I should I felt very uncomfortably full and even had to lie down to relax a couple of times, but never even close to puking.

As long as you eat VERY slowly at first you'll quickly learn your limitations. Just be sure to move from the mindset of cleaning your plate, although if you weigh and measure everything and have the appropriate small portions you should be able to finish what's on your plate without stuffing yourself.

Maybe a silly question but was anyone told to take off their nail and toe polish before surgery?

Yes, i had to take off my nail and toe nail polish before surgery yet my nose ring was able to stay in. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think I had to my nails unpolished. They watch them (or someone does) while they're operating to make sure they don't turn blue.

They ask you remove nail polish so they can see the colour of your natural nail to check your circulation. Also sometimes nail polish can affect the accuracy of the instrument that clips onto your finger to measure your pulse & blood oxygenation levels.

All the best with your surgery & recovery.

Weight isn't coming off as fast as I thought it would. I've had a few days of not feeling well but so far only 1 dumping episode.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
