pre-op liquid diet...

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Yesterday I started a two week liquid pre-op diet. I am to consume 5 Slimfasts a day. Day 2 is going along however the shakes are so sweet! I can't believe I actually said that! It is going to be a LONG 2 weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any other "legal" liquids some one can suggest?

Thanks!

I had the same issue. I was so sick of sweet things. My surgeons office said I could have one cup of low sodium chicken broth a day. It helped, a little.

If you don't like sweets.. I'll trade ya..

I have MediFast.. and it's so NOT sweet..

I'd much rather have Slimfast than that Medifast crap!

Wow, I only had a 2 day pre-op liquid diet, and now I am on 2 weeks of full liquids post-op (banded Dec. 10). I am struggling with the sweetness issue too, I normally loove salty foods and I'm consuming a lot of protien shakes and juices, everything sweet! I'm allowed broth, or Soups as long as I strain them if they have any chunks in it. I love Campbells Tomato Soup, or Amy's Butternut Squash Soup. Also, V8 or Tomato juice can be a lifesaver - they're salty and taste great!!

Our pre-op Liquid Protein diet for 10 days consists of 3 cups of low fat or fat free plain cottage cheese or same plain yogurt, three Protein Shakes, low salt/fat free chicken and/or beef broth, as many sugar free popsicles or fudgesicles and s/f Jello as we want in one day. I practiced it for 4 days two weeks ago and I was fine - I didn't have everything thing but I did do the 3 cups of cottage cheese and the three shakes and some broths and maybe one popsicle. I actually felt better. I start again tomorrow, this time for real -I'm now 10 days before my surgery. I'm ready.

Hey Stevie...

We have the same date! I'm also on the pre-op diet. Ick!!

My family was upset because they thought since I was on a restricted diet, that they wouldn't get their Christmas goodies!!

I assured them.. they would. I'm dedicated to this surgery, so I'm not going to slip up. It's sooooooooooooooo tempting.

I hate my pre-op diet. ;) Can't handle that Medifast stuff, so I'm just doing the broth, SF Jello and popsicles.. oh.. and some cheese for protein! ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
