So I had my appointment with my dietician and it got me curious to know what are average maintenance calories for RNY-ers.

Those who are in maintenance, can you note down your calories here so I can have an idea how to gradually increase my calories.

Thank you

it's really an individual thing. It depends on your height, activity level, metabolic rate, and how much weight you're trying to maintain. As an example, you can eat a lot more calories if you're trying to maintain 160 lbs vs 120 lbs.

I'm 5'6", fairly active, and try to stay in the 150-160 range. I can eat 1700 calories and maintain that.

But i know women (WLS) who can eat 2000 calories and maintain, and others who have to stick to 1200-ish to maintain.

the best way to figure out your range is trial and error, unfortunately.

I've seen everything from 800ish to close to 3000, depending...

One thing to remember (or learn, if they didn't tell you,) is that the caloric malabsorption tends to dissipate after a year or two, so you may need more to maintain a certain weight now than you will in a couple of years, so stay flexible, keep tracking what you are eating and make adjustments along the way.

I'm still trying to find my maintenance calorie level. After I got to goal, I added 50 calories per day every month, then 100 calories per day until my weight loss slowed down. I am in my 60s, moderately active, but no formal work out. I'm currently at 1100 to 1200 calories with a few days eating 1400 and still losing weight, albeit slowly.

Like others said, maintenance calories differ for everyone depending on body composition, lifestyle and genes.

I’m 5’2” female, 50 yrs old, moderately active, 117.8 lbs (this morning)

I’ve been maintaining this weight +/- a couple lbs for the past 2 years at about 1800-2000 cals a day.

In comparison, i was able to maintain this same weight range 3 years ago eating as much as 2500 cals average a day…but I was waaaaay more active back then.

Tracking your food consumption, weight and activity levels helps to pinpoint YOUR maintenance calories for a given desired weight.

But i realize this is not for everyone…in that case just make adjustments (i.e., change your food intake, exercise frequency, sleep habits, etc) if you notice your weight (or how your clothes fit) go in a direction that you are unwilling to go.

Good Luck! ❤️

I did not have a RNY. I had the SADI-S, but I just got to maintenance in July. So far I'm up to about 1600 calories and was maintaining although last week I had a 2 pound gain.
I'm not sure if it's from too many calories or Water weight because I increased my exercise a lot.
I guess we will see how it goes.
I am 51 so I may need less since I'm close to menopause.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
