Pee smell like protein?

Recommended Posts

Hello surgery buddies, for the past 4 weeks when i pee, my peel smells like my Protein Shakes. I take the fairlife ones. But am drinking my liquids, i dont make it to 64, usually 50 something oz daily.

And my nails stopped growing, and now britlle and breaking that it hurts to grab things.

My Hair loss is better, stopped thinning and got a hair cut last week. I had my RNY Nov 2021 down 107lbs today. Im meeting with my dietician in 2 week in person to shop at the store and read labels properly.

Thank you!

You could still be or are back in ketosis if you’re still losing? Does anything else smell, body odour, breath, etc., like with ketosis? Maybe change shake brands to see if something in Fairlife isn't sitting as well with you.

As for your nails, are you meeting your Protein goal? Are you taking your Multi Vitamins? Are you eating a variety of foods to get in a broad range of nutrients? Were you low in anything in your last blood test? My nails are weak & ridged because of my protein absorption issue so I understand how you feel. Glad your Hair loss has improved though.

PS - Congrats on your weight loss so far. 🏆

I think my pee smells like Protein too. I am about 9 weeks post op though. It is strange but is what it is.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
