I have an adjustable bed and that was amazing post op but if you don’t have one and can’t find a comfy position in bed or in a recliner you may want to get a bed wedge. They just put you in a little more upright position. Which is also good for getting in and out of bed easier. They have them at medical supply stores but they also sell them on Amazon.

I'm only doing about half my fluids. Today I was able to have a Protein Shake. No signs of dehydration yet. Just wish I could get up and clean or do something normal without my legs being so weak.

Yea, just take your time, the cleaning will wait. You just had major surgery and you have to give your body time to recover. Things will get back to normal soon enough.

A recliner was what i slept in for the first 2-3 weeks after surgery. I could not do a standard bed. I wish i had an adjustable bed lol.

The first few days out I wasn’t getting in all my fluids so I didn’t feel good at all. I felt better once I reached those daily Fluid and Protein goals. Keep plugging away one ounce at a time.

I slept in a reclined position for the first 3 days. I have noticed I have to sleep on my back now. With a pillow under my knees. I had my surgery on the 25th of May

I’ve tried the recliner and it’s so uncomfortable for me. I slept in my bed last night. How is your pain? I’m 2days post op and I’m still feeling it alot especially my right side. Sometimes I feel I have heart burn

Our bodies react differently to the surgery & we recover in our own time. Take it easy. If your body is telling you no, not yet, listen. Try some electrolyte drinks for a boost of energy. I’d mix up 500mls of diluted hydralyte every day for the first couple of months to help with the low energy. You really need to be trying to get to your Fluid goal each day. It would be adding to your weakness & you don’t want to risk dehydration. Remember all fluids count to your goal including your Protein Shakes, broths, etc.

I understand yiu wanting to bathe. Could you get hold of a shower chair to use until you feel stronger?

No pain at all. I have some discomfort if I do to much. But I have noticed, if I eat the amount of Protein my doctor has told me to get to. The pain is less. I only do anything for 10-15 at a time.

I slept propped up in my loveseat because I don't have a recliner. It worked well. I had to do it for about a week before I could sleep in my bed. As for the fluids and Protein, that's likely the reason you're feeling off. Also, you may not be getting enough calories. Try to drink Protein Shakes and protein Water, that way you can at least get your fluids and protein in at the same time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
