Hey y'all!

I has=d surgery on 05/02/2022 and I am still just on liquids until Thursday. I see a lot of people talk about how hard it it to drink Water and only taking baby sips. I can drink so much water and take big gulps without any pain. Its like I forgot I even had surgery. Is this normal or not.

Thank you.

Its the same with me. I had no issues with liquids tho it is easier for me to get in all my liquids if its gatorade instead of Water.

Same here. I have to constantly remind myself to sip slowly or I’ll drink as I’m accustomed.

I could drink bigger sips, but I couldn't guzzle a whole 16 oz bottle of Water like before surgery. I still can't, but I can drink about half a glass of water in one gulp now. Everyone is different.

I'm 7 days post op, and for the last 2 days I can take much larger sips. I was very limited the first 3 days. VERY. Day for was better, and yesterday and today I can drink even more. Still not as much as I could before surgery, but a lot more than I could right after.

It's weird but I think while your stomach is still healing, the sensations are reduced. It doesn't happen to everyone but I saw that some people need some time to really start feeling restrictions. I didn't feel restriction either with liquids although I was careful. I remember being in the hospital the next morning after my surgery and I drank a whole Protein Shake in like 15 minutes. The staff was shocked lol I was like you sure this thing worked? But yeah, after I reached soft foods, then I started really feeling the restriction. Also, Water became much more difficult to drink. I think as time goes by some days you'll have a really easy time and then there are days where you can painstakingly feel every little drop or morsel that goes in..I don't know why this is and no one has been able to explain it to me thus far.
Anyway, so long as you're taking it easy and you stop the moment you feel any discomfort you're probably fine.

About the first week , I could only do small sips because of my esophagus being stretched and it was "extremely narrow" according to my surgeon. Drinking didn't bother my stomach but it hurt my throat. After about a week I was drinking pretty normal but could not take huge gulps, if would feel like I was swallowing a hard lump of something. Now, 7 weeks out, I can drink a lot and fast. I wouldn't say I chug like before surgery but I can definitely get Water down quick.

Before I had surgery I just kept reading "sip, sip, sip" and I was worried I would never be able to drink normal again but that was short lived and I was back to normal in no time.

I was able to drink fairly normal that same day In the hospital. I think The amount of inflammation varies drastically from person to person and this really impacts the drinking the first few days.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
