Hi everyone - new member here.

I have been researching lapband surgery for a couple of weeks now. Been considering some kind of bariatric surgery for a couple of years now, but after watching the people at work who have had gastric bypass and all the problems they have had I was scared to do it.

After reading about the lapband, I feel comfortable with this method.

I am going to the free info seminar next Thu in Houston. I talked to our HR lady who had gastric bypass 4 years ago and she said our insurance (Anthem BC/BS PPO) was good about approving people as long as they meet the requirements (which I do).

I will be 49 in January, I am 5' 2" and I weigh 100 pounds more than I did before I had kids (my oldest turns 23 on Christmas Eve). I have been yo-yo dieting for the last 20 years and I am sick of it and tired of being hungry all the time and a slave to my hunger.

I am so impressed with all the support and information on this forum!

Welcome! I just got the band 2 weeks ago. I, too, dieted most of my life, and knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that this was the answer for me. Funny thing, I thought it would change me in some way, but I am still the same old me. I still want to eat constantly, but I can't because I don't want to ruin this SURGERY I had. :scared: Supposedly, it gets easier, especially when you get your fills. It is a learning process, and you are on the right track! It is so helpful to read posts from those who have gone before and experienced the same things you are in the midst of.

Hi NoMoreYoYo,

I just joined this week too!!!! For the same reasons as you. My process was fast, I went to a seminar on 10/13, met the Dr. on 10/17, went for required test on 11/26 and scheduled for banding next Monday (Dec. 17; my BIRTHDAY!!!). This is my gift to myself and I am excited.

It is going to be a life changing experience I am sure. But I look forward to the change. I have tried everything else. By the looks of everyone else's success. I think this was God sent!!!! I did want the gastro bypass, so I was hoping something else come along that I felt comfortable with and I think this is it.

Well, I will start Monday after surgery posting my every move so you will know what to look forward to.

Go luck........... We will do this!!!!!!!

Sonya

Good luck on your surgery Monday, smww! What a great birthday present! My birthday is Jan 4th and I will be 49. I swore I didn't want to be "fat and 40" but that didn't happen. Now I am hoping and praying that a year from now I can celebrating NOT BEING "fat and 50"!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
