Apparently this is not new but I just seen it at Starbucks in their Protein meal so I looked into it a bit and the calories and carbs seem comparable to regular bread but it has 4g protein and 3g Fiber in a serving. I don’t have any regular bread to compare but I don’t recall it having protein. Just wondering what others think about it. I had to try it but I only ate half a serving with some hummus and that was more than enough. It’s pretty filling. It tastes delicious.

So i bought hummus a few days ago and next to the humus they have their NAAN bread, Tandori Bread and others that are typically found in the middle east. I was so sad when i saw the nutrition facts. Very high in carbs. (typical with bread) and some of the nutrition facts said the serving size was 1/3rd of 1 slice of bread. I was like seriously??? LOL so now i have nothing to eat my hummus with lol

The one I got at Walmart is called Dippers by Stonefire. It’s 150 calories for 5 pieces. I had 2.5 pieces (yes I actually cut one in half. Lol) with hummus and I was satisfied. I am just wondering if the calories are higher cause of the Protein? ? I have been eating my hummus with Stacy’s pita thins and those have 130 calories per serving but I usually only have three or four chips vs 13 per serving since a serving of hummus is only two tablespoons so I figured it’s not too bad. I still cannot eyeball exactly the 2 tbsp either but I ordered one ounce cups on Amazon to measure my hummus and Salad Dressing. I’m still trying. Lol

i thought we had to watch the carbs more than calories in foods. So thats what i have been looking at going to the grocery store. Anything with a lot of carbs i leave behind.

Everyone’s nutritionist has different rules. Mine didn’t go into any amount of carbs that are okay or not okay but they said to try to stay away from them. I have mostly just gone by calories to be honest but I don’t have alot of carbs at all. Only in fruit/smoothies but that’s all natural sugar.

So what do you do with your hummus? Just eat it with a spoon?? I tried that and I didn’t like it.

Generally yes, a reduced carb diet is recommended while losing though they are many different plans with different guidelines around carbs. But @ShoppGirl is at her goal (congrats) so her diet is less restricted now & she’ll be reintroducing certain food groups or looking for alternatives.

I tried some naan bread with hummus last year. I only managed one bite cause it was just sitting there. Was yummy though. I added multigrain/whole grain crackers to my diet from maintenance which was very handy if eating cheese & dips when socialising. I always keep hummus in my fridge for when friends drop around.

For those not in maintenance try raw vegetable crudités, if or when you’re able, to scoop up your hummus.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
