A Small Slip Up And 10 Pounds??

Recommended Posts

:mad:Well at 1 year and 8 months , I can say Im normal..and normal people slip up and get complacent and so I admit yes I was eating more then 4 oz, and then 6 and 8.. sometimes more.. and in the last 6 months I have had terriable hearburn that has truned into reflus, that has lead to sleepless night , with acid comming back up and vomiting.. so off to the Dr I go with my stubborn, complacent and almost normal sized butt,,

I am at 194 with 14 pounds to go to goal , my doctor higly suggested taking all of my precious Fluid out do to the reflux and complaications I was having, from a streched pouch..as Im lieing there crying,,:think he tell me not to get discouraged if I GAIN weight over the next 3 weeks.. Its my goal to stay in onderland, but he said 10 pounds is normal.. so for now a minor set back.. good news though He tells me after all things have gone back and I get a new fill that it should be easier for me to lose weight dut to a normal smaller pouch 4oz insted of the streched one I Have now,, so I am excited and hopefull!! :clap2:

Hi.. I am sort of worried that my pouch has stretched. It sounds like yours has. How did you or dr determine this and how will the letting out the liquid fix this problem. Was it because you were eating too much? I am really curious as I have not been doing so well lately.

I feel for you but am sure you will do fine. Guess we all have to look at the long run...

Well I can tell you from experince.. that waiting is a foolish and silly thing,, I waited and suffered for over 5 months with terriable reflux, coughing all night from acid in my throat. taking tons of heart burn meds , not eating after 5 pm.. and having very slow weight loss.. and all I had to do was go see my Doc.. I was so worried that he would take all my Fluid and I would have to start all over...

Well that is exactly what happened.. and I have been free of all my porblems and it has been wonderful.

Letting out all the Fluid from my band and staying on a liquid/ soft diet lets the streched part of the stomach.. slip back down to the bottom side of the band where it belongs,, and after a couple of fills ( getting one today) I should be back at my 4 oz pouch.. insted of my streched 6-8 ounce pouch.. and my weight loss will be better and faster.

Moral of the story ,,, go to the Doctor,, dont suffer..

When you are unfilled most docs put you on a liquid diet so your pouch can go back to normal size. After that when you get fills you have a LOT more restriction. It is much easier to lose weight. With a dilated pouch your pouch is too big, holds too much food, and you don't lose weight.

Consider this, when they first started doing bands they made the pouch much bigger and people were not losing weight. They started making it smaller and they lost weight much better. So while this may be a small setback, in the end you'll probably take that weight off easier than before.

just a update.. for all you peeps, after my unfill I gained 6 pounds, My doc was reaay proud, he expected 15 with a month unfilled

The great news is I feel wonderful inside!! and my 2 weeks of liquids has let my tummy shrink back down and fix itself!!

I went back for a fill and had 1.5 in. ( almost 1 cc less then before) and my restriction is perfect!! no heart burn, and i can sleep, and Im eating way less!! im looking forward to my weigh in this week, to see how those 6 pounds go away and get on the road to the last 30!!

Moral of the story.. IF YOUR READING THIS BECAUSE YOU HAVE HEARTBURN, REFLX COUGHING UNABLE TO LIE DOWN.. go to your doc, its time to get unfilled and get set right back on track !! dont be foolish like me!! and suffer becasue you dont wait to fail, or have to start over!!

Im better now then I have been in months!

Thanks!!

Thanks Vegas. That's exactly the problem I've been having this week. The doctor took some of the fill out, but I am still suffering. I'm am going to sip liquids only over the weekend, but if I still can't sleep I am calling on Monday. It kills me to do this since I am self pay and each office visit costs me.

What is the most common side effect of a stretched pouch? Is it the heartburn and puking? How would one know if their pouch is stretched?

Thank you for your answer. Where do you get your fills? I had my surgery in Mexico and will go there, but was wondering if there was a place in Vegas that would do it?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
