If I was feeling really poorly, I could just give them my doctor's note and take the whole four weeks off, and nobody could say a thing,

But, since I'm not doing that bad, and I'm asking for reduced in-person hours this year due to going to school as well as working full time, I stand a much better chance if I'm there from day one and showing the department head that I'm willing to work.

That's a great solution! Taking care of you is the most important thing you can do :)

I have a wedding two weeks after my surgery! Hopefully I can bring my own blended Soup of some sort. LOL

I have a funny feeling that I'll be taking my own prepared meals to almost anywhere I go, just to be safe!

Right!! LOLLL pureed meats, reminds me of canned dog/cat food. Applesauce for me!

Is anyone here old enough to remember SPAM and potted deviled ham in a can? Full of sodium and preservatives! I'm hoping to make a copycat recipe with organic meats, some avocado mayo for Fiber, and cooked egg yolk. Puree and then freeze them into little 2 oz. portions.

I’m here at the hospital. Surgery and recovery have been a breeze so far. Almost no surgical pain except for hunger pain!

Congratulations! Keep us posted with updates! So happy that you are feeling well and have had a great experience! ❤️

Lordy, yes! I remember eating the potted deviled ham when I was a kid. 😂 After my VSG, during my puréed stage, I made a lot of tuna salad (just tuna and mayo with a little dill pickle juice) in my food processor. I’d whip that stuff up and put it in little 2 oz cups and keep them in my fridge. I really liked the Starkist Hickory Smoke tuna in the pouch and I would use that most of the time. I liked having some guacamole with a little salt, too. I watched a lot of YouTube videos by this lady who was very creative with the puréed stage food. If you want to get some ideas, watch TimeToShrink videos. I plan to use a lot of my old “recipes” after my revision to RNY.

I’m not going to lie, I’m slightly jealous of those of you already returning to work/feeling great postop!

I’m officially 1 week post op and I feel like I’m never going to be the same 😩 I have a constant feeling of something being “stuck” in my chest/throat and it’s driving me crazy! I’m also struggling to get in the recommended amount of Protein each day, shakes are disgusting to me now, and I feel awful after finishing one.. I also am having a reallly difficult time getting in all of my meds, taking Horse pills with a SIP of Water is making the “stuck” feeling even worse.

I honestly thought that I was so ready for this and it was all going to be a breeze, but I wasn’t even close to prepared… I don’t regret it, yet, but boy am I close.

Much happiness and good thoughts to everyone who is having surgery this week!

I'm officially 1 week post-op RNY (with hernia repair)! Here is what I've learned this week from my surgeon, my partner (who is a nurse) and myself:

1) If you are in pain, take your meds. There is no shame in taking pain meds for a major surgery. Everyone's pain tolerance is different and I have been in a fair to high amount of pain since surgery. I'm not sure if it's the RNY plus the hernia repair that is causing this level of pain, but I took whatever pain meds the nurses gave during my hospital stay (there was a combination) and then every 6 hours after I was discharged for the first 3 days and now I'm only taking them when I feel pain, but I still feel pain, so I'm still taking them.

2) Rest. I'm a person who is always on the go and it's been difficult for me to just REST. It's driving my partner (the nurse) crazy. He keeps reminding me "It's only been ____ days! You just had two major surgeries! Rest please!! Sit down! Take a nap!" Don't feel guilty about resting your first week (or weeks) home.

2) PLAN PLAN PLAN. Once I was on full liquids I was shocked at how low the Protein value is per BARIATRIC SERVING and quickly realized if I didn't plan what I was going to eat and when I was going to eat it, this will get out of control really fast. Yes, a container of protein greek yogurt has 20 grams of protein in it (a 5.3 oz container), but if you are only eating 2 oz servings at a time, you have cut your protein down to 7.5 g per serving. I've added Isopure to almost everything I eat and I do 5g Isopure per 2 oz food which adds another 4g protein.

3) It's extremely difficult to get your 64 oz of Water in. Pre-surgery I was like "that will be easy." Nope. Not at all. First, your new pouch will only hold a sip or two at a time. Too much and it will hurt. And once you are eating full liquids or purees, you have to stop drinking 30 min before, 30 minutes after (and another 10/15/20 to actually eat your food) and if you are eating 3-5x a day...this becomes a full time job. I know it will get easier, but it has been overwhelming right now.

I'm on week 3 post-op. I definitely have those thoughts about buyer's remorse. Do I regret it? I don't. But I can see how many do. This has been such a mental struggle for me. I'm having a really hard time eating anything, especially cheese. I'm getting to the point I'm almost scared to eat anything that isn't a liquid.

I am also 1 week post-op today and feel the same way. I'm overwhelmed, exhausted, in pain, timers are constantly going off...it's getting so hard to keep track of stuff even with apps. Just thinking about going back to work next week has me in a panic. BUT, I know it will get easier and easier and the pounds are coming off so no real regrets now. I just wish I was someone who bounced back a bit quicker.

I'm 8 days post op and my incisions are so itchy! I had to buy guaze and medical tape to put over them and it helps a little. I've also started wearing my binder to sleep so I don't accidentally scratch them in my sleep.

Otherwise, everything is going great! I've lost 9 pounds since surgery day and I'm able to tolerate the chewable vitamins so far.

I'm so sorry. If it makes you feel better I haven't hit my daily water goal ever yet. And those first few days were mostly Swanson's sipping broth. I also went and had IV fluids on post-op day 3. I think that helped a lot.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
