Newly sleeved 4/28. Q’s for water

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I was sleeved this last Thursday and I have just felt Water logged. Also haven’t been able to get things moving (💩.) How do you track your water? I want to make sure I’m setting up good habits. I’m struggling with the water/other approved Clear Liquids intake. I’m trying though. I’m not sure if I need a schedule or if I’m drinking too much at a time. (1/2 oz-1oz) I feel like it’s every 5 minutes. But then I just feel sloshy and water logged and then I’ll wait 30 minutes or so and totally do not feel like there’s room for my 1/2 a Protein Shake, even in 1/2 oz-1oz portions. I’m just so overwhelmed. What worked for you? I’m a mom to 3 kids, so I need all the help I can get! Thank you so much in advance.

you can get a water bottle at Walmart or any store that has measurements on it. That is how i keep track or simply drink from the standard 16oz Water bottles you buy at the store. Also it took me about 4-5 days to finally go number 2. I have seen some say it take a week. hopefully your doctor provided a script for stool softeners because the 1st one is a doozy. But i simply just take sips of water through out the day. I also bought on Amazon like 100 of those little 1 ounce cups. and i drink my Protein with that. Makes it easier. I poor 1 little cup at a time. and when i feel like taking another i pour another little cup.

Thank you. I also just ordered those little 1oz cups from Amazon. They should be here today! That’s what I’ve been using, but when you drink your liquids do you sip from that little1 oz cup or take it all at once?

Mom to 3 rem how you fed your baby. Little at a time. You have a baby tummy. So sips during the recovery period.

First of all, everything you are feeling is completely normal. Those first couple of weeks when you are trying to figure out liquid intake and how to get in Protein, its all a little overwhelming. And the weird, Water logged, sloshy feeling is also normal. I don't think I really felt "right" until I moved to thicker purees. Keep doing what you're doing and you will find that it gets easier over time.

That being said, I purchased a Hydrate Spark water bottle to log water intake. Its definitely a pricey investment, but it has been extremely helpful. It sends me notifications to remind me to drink, it logs all of my water, etc. I also use Just Better Fiber daily to help manage some of the other "issues" and it has helped tremendously. I started with one tablespoon a day and worked up to 3-4. It has been a game changer!

Use an app like My Fitness Pal to track all your Water and food intake. I find it a little easier to get water down when you do not think about it like "I need to get 64 ounces of water down". Think if on a micro level. You are up for approximately 16 hours per day. If you avoid liquid for a half hour before and after meals, that leaves 13 hours to get down 64 ouces. that is about 5 ounces of water in a one hour period. That is less than 1 ounce every 10 minutes. You will be able to do this easily and after a while you will be able to drink 8 ounces in a very short amount of time.

What worked for me was experimenting with various temperatures of water/clear liquids. Usually I found cold-but-not-icy Water suited me best, and when my pouch grew tired of that, I concentrated more on warm herbal tea. Good luck finding your new normals!

64 ounces is a half gallon so you can also fill up a juice or milk container each day and just pour your Water from that all day. I drank bottled water and I knew exactly how many bottles I should have before lunch and after lunch which made it seem less daunting but it’s really whatever works for you. Tracking it on a little notepad on fridge or one of the apps on your phone seems like it would work too. Soon you will be finishing whole bottles within a more normal time so it gets easier to track.

Will my pouch be able to handle more liquids at a time further out? I can only get about 3 oz of Water before I start to feel water logged. And that’s drinking it 1/2-1oz, every 5 to 10 min.

You should be able to drink a little more at a time as time goes by. Not EVERYONE can but most people eventually get back to a normal pace from what I have heard on here. I drink the same as I did pre op now. I can’t guzzle but I can drink my whole Protein Shake within a pretty short time in the morning.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
