Do you do anything special for yourself the night before surgery?

Recommended Posts

That is awesome! Great way to ease into things ! My hospital said no nail polish anywhere, and no lotions anywhere the night before or day of. I was also finishing up all of my planning for work and the kids with their schedules and activities for the next week! I wish I could have taken it easy that last night.

They didn’t have me do any bowel prep, but I started taking Miralax a few days ahead of time. I thought it would help, but I think it backfired. I had incredible abdominal pain after surgery, and I think it was related to all of that in my intestines, yet the anesthesia preventing my intestines from working properly. Ugh. It all got better eventually, though.

My surgery center also said no lotions or potions prior to surgery, and honestly, it never occurred to do anything "special" in the shower other than the hibiclens. I hate showers LOL. I only do it because it's sort of required to live in society.

I didn't have to do bowel prep either. Just only Clear Liquids.

I was mostly just scared I would die during surgery, so I was trying to distract myself. I'm glad it's over with.

I was told 1 oz of milk of magnesia the morning before and 8 oz of apple juice the morning of.

I screwed up the day before and downed 8 oz of milk of magnesia. So I spent the night before surgery vacating every meal I've ever had.

Day after surgery they wanted my to have a bowel movement before discharge and I'm like, I'm going to be here for days before there's anything there.

I have no problem with the hibiclens. I've actually used it in the past for acne break outs.

🤔 That was 2 weeks ago tonight. I went to my nail place and had my nail color removed. My husband and I watched TWO episodes of Magnificent Century. I packed a bag the morning of surgery, showered, used eyebrow color and under eye concealer (in case they misplaced me and thought I should be in the morgue 😅😂🤣😅😂).
I was due at the hospital at 8:20 and we got there at 8. They called me back at about 9:25.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
