blood pressure changes

Recommended Posts

So last year i use to keep track of my blood pressure in a log book. It was always typically in the 130-140's over 70-80's with a pulse rate of 80-100 bpm.

Since surgery i have kept a log book and its typically under 120/65 and pulse rate is typically in the 60's.

Interesting change.

My pulse dropped immediately after surgery. I hadn't even lost much weight, and the resting rate dropped into the high 50s. It's stayed there, and my BPs definitely dropped quickly - I've had to cut back on two meds and I am sure I will get another cut when I go back in June.

Before surgery I was on 2 blood pressure meds and was still borderline high. (130s/90s)

IMMEDIATELY after surgery the hospital was only giving me 1 blood pressure med and it was perfect and has been every since. (115ish/70s)

My Dr told me to check and everyday to make sure it doesnt drop under 100/60 ans if so call him right away. I hope to be off the meds after loosing some more weight. It is the only medication I am on other than preventative from the surgeon for a few months.

BP improvement is the big reason my cardiologist wants me to have surgery. I’m on 3 BP meds. Exercise pretty regularly. And have a pacemaker and congenital defects. He said more than likely after surgery I’ll stay on 1 pill and for at least 6 months be closely monitored. When you think about why BP is higher it makes sense. By losing weight you decrease how much effort your heart has to put into just keeping you alive.

Yeah my resting heart rate and BP dropped dramatically after surgery, this is another reason this will add years to your life.

Lower blood pressure & pulse rate is a great side effect of your weight loss. Some do find the experience quite significant drops for a while & have issues on getting up with vision narrowing, doughy head & at worst fainting - postural hypotension.

My BP was always 120/80 but I had a tendency for drops at times especially when I was at a lower weight. Now my blood pressure is low all the time (60/50 - 80/60). It will hit 100 if I’m rushing about. I experience narrow vision & a doughy head on & off all day long depending upon what I’m doing. My resting pulse sits in the 60s. Last hospital stay they asked if I was an athlete which was hilarious because I avoid exercise. But that’s me & a tendency to low blood pressure is common on my mother’s side so genetic. I think being overweight actually pushed my BP up to a healthy 120/80.

How long did it take for y'all to see the change to your bp? I wasn't on meds before surgery but I as given some the night of my surgery because it was to high. My bp is still on the high side a week after surgery. My blood sugar still hasn't gone down either. But my surgeon wanted me to go off my metformin. So I did🤷🏼‍♀️

Mine changed instantly. I was on 2 meds and it was still on the high side (130s/90s). In the hospital the only gave me 1 of my BP meds (I don't know why) and it was perfect so I continued this at home and it has stayed perfect. I am hoping I will be able to loose the meds completely after loosing more weight.

I can't speak for the glucose. My only medical issue is the high BP.

I did this surgery not only for WL but to keep from having to go on bp meds and hopefully lower my blood sugar. I know high bp is just genetic. That might be my case. If so at least I'll be smaller lol

It is genetic. Luckily, every time in the past I have lost weight my BP dropped back to normal so I have high hopes for this time too. Although, I was younger so I might just be genetically screwed now. haha

That’s great I think. I mean it went down. I really don’t know what the range is for normal. Mine always has been so I don’t pay much attention to it.

During my very first visit with my surgeon, he told me that my high blood pressure will disappear immediately after surgery. I’ve been on BP medication ever since I turned 35 (I’m 54) and had two mini strokes in 2009. He told me to stop taking my BP medication the day of surgery and monitor my blood pressure at home. He was right. My average BP is 117/71 with a HR of 74. It’s crazy! So far, it’s the best non-scale victory.

I missed the memo of stop taking the medication and I’ve just spent a month in major depression because my blood pressure got so low. Stay on top of it because it will mess with you mentally if it gets low and stays there. I’m only day 1 without it but I’m thrilled to have a reason for my misery!!!

It's been a year as of the 4th of June. I was diabetic always in the200 to 300. After I had the surgery I'm not diabetic amore now I stay on the 90s. I don't take as much medicine to.I don't have to inject 3diffrent pens or take metformin
Hope this helps.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
