Hello, 5 days PO from sleeve and I ate the broth from chili (no meat Beans etc) just the liquid. I feel fine. I went out to eat with family and that’s all they had Soup wise. Will I be okay? Thanks!!

you will be fine. I have been eating strained Soups without issue. Last week i had some chicken enchilada type Soup and i just strained out all the solid stuff. No issue. My discharge paperwork tho did tell me to avoid going out to eat for at least 2 months.

I’m sure it’s fine as long as you can tolorate the spice. I was fine with spice pretty early out but my team said to introduce it slowly.

I think you're fine. I think bariatric pal has some chili for the early stage. I had it because that was the most difficult part of the journey for me (other than pre-op diet) and it was pretty good. lol

You'll be fine. After my sleeve surgery they had me eating scrambled eggs, egg salad, tuna salad, and chicken salad the day after I got home. Same after my revision to bypass surgery. Some doctors are more conservative than others I suppose, but our anatomy is the same, so if I was OK you'll be OK too.

You said you just ate the liquid part so you’re okay. Strained wonton Soup, pho, etc. are often go to alternatives to shakes & bone broths.

Agreed with everyone else. Eating out in the beginning is especially tough to make "good" choices. As Catwoman said, some folks tolerate spices more than others. I would offer some advice to proceed with caution on some things just because you don't know how YOUR body will tolerate things in the beginning (spices, milk based sauces, etc). I've had to make some uh.....quick exits when I got stupid and tried something in public for the first time that just didn't agree with my um.... gastrointestinal system.

Wow! I guess it really does boil down to what we are capable of tolerating early on, My dieticians are very strict with only fluids post op for 2 weeks. They dont even want us to try anything until post op 3 weeks.

Same with mine. I had a packet with a timeline of when and what foods/stages I could eat. Each surgeon has his/her own recommendations/rules.
I’d check with your surgeon though on what is ok…ultimately it’s what your surgeons rules are for you.

I ate egg drop from the Chinese food restaurant bc I figured it was broth like when I was on PO liquid diet. The doc gave me a hard time about it but ended up being ok. I think we all make mistakes. It’s hard.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
