Even if you were self pay (not sure if you were or not) I would think 30 would be too low for bariatric surgery. Many places will do it with a BMI of 30 for self pay. It seems like I have Even heard of someone’s insurance covering it at 30 with certain comorbidities but I would not swear to that. They have done tons of studies that show people with 30 BMI are actually more successful on average with weight loss and keeping it off. 1 Quesodip251 reacted to this

Having said that, I had the VSG to bypass revision recently and asked a surgeon at the hospital how would it be different than the straight bypass and he said basically the same thing as your surgeon did. He said that with the sleeve, I already have far less ghrelin production than a normal stomach, so after the revision it'll be even more so. I couldn't find any studies online though. It wasn’t an error. He told me “that’s what we do here” and said they removed it the same as a sleeve would in order to remove the ghrelin hormones.

Over there they really dont have the strict rules like they do here in the USA. 1 SleeveToBypass2023 reacted to this

It’s a bmi of 30+ in the U.S. including down the road from me. It was just cheaper over there. The 35+ with comorbidities or 40 w/o is standard insurance company guidelines for payment of surgery but it’s 30 for qualification to have it at most places in the U.S. 2 Mariann812 and SleeveToBypass2023 reacted to this

Before my surgery, my surgeon showed me a video of the exact procedure he was going to do, explained it to me in a diagram and drew it out. He told me that surgeons have different ways doing the procedure (limb length, pouch size... Etc.), and he told me the details of what he's going to do so there would be no surprises. That was the time I could ask all my questions. Anyway, congrats on your surgery!

I told them prior to surgery that no one has talked to me about the procedure. I just had the informed consent description in writing. I asked that someone come talk to me prior to surgery and was told it would happen but no one did 2 SleeveToBypass2023 and Tomo reacted to this

A lot of doctors just give them to you automatically but some you have to ask.

I haven’t had any issues (fingers crossed) but many on here have. I bet someone will chime in if they do and have been prescribed something stronger. 1 Quesodip251 reacted to this
