I felt similar to you. Hang in there, you will find new favorites or old ones that work for you. Right now you are newly healing. Follow your plan, but mostly just get your Water in and the Protein. Many of us find stuff tastes differently from before. There’s several threads on crystal lite and sucrose. Many of us find warm tea, Soups, or broth more comfortable in our bellies early on too.

The biggest changes I noticed was an aversion to certain spicy foods that I didn't have before - I used to love this buffalo chicken pizza my local pizza place made. Several months after surgery I tried a bite and it was WAY too spicy when before it didn't bother me at all.

Also the taste of soda disgusts me now and I used to drink gallons of it.

I am truly hoping I lose the desire altogether for Dt Coke!! I drank way to many of those things each day. That saying, I have not had but 1 Dt Coke in a week. So I think Om doing good with that at the minute and so far it doesnt bother me too bad. I do miss the fizz of it tho.

It is not uncommon for your taste buds &/or sense of smell to change or become more sensitive after surgery. It’s temporary but it can make it a challenge to find foods that don’t turn your tummy. Many of us find our old favourites taste disgusting, or overly sweet or salty. A lot of us suggest you don’t buy your pre surgery shakes in bulk as you may hate the brand or flavour after surgery. It was many weeks into solid food before I could tolerate my favourite vegetables (asparagus, sugar snap peas & broccolini) again. Can also be a blessing. Finding things excessively sweet helped take away a lot of my desire for sweet food. Used to eat something sweet every day now only a couple of times a year.

I'm not sure how temporary the irritating smells thing is because when I'm fatigued, stressed, sick, in pain, or in any other way out of sorts I'm very sensitive to smells.

Honestly I don't know if this is as a result of surgery or just what I call 'part of the joy of being me.' It did start with my WLS surgery. It's certainly nothing to vex about at worst it's usually mild and passes quickly.

Good luck,

Tek

my tastes didn't really change, it just got more intense for awhile. Spicy things tasted spicier; sweet things tasted sweeter. It was temporary, though - either that, or I just got used to it.

I pretty much lost my interest in food, though - as well as my sense of hunger - for about five months. Although it was weird to get used to, I wish it'd never come back. It was so much easier to lose weight when I didn't give a flip about food!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
