Hi All,
Currently, my surgery is scheduled for May 3rd. I was wondering if there were any other people on a similar timeline who I could buddy up with for support and discussion. It will be covered by the insurance IF the results of my sleeping test were negative. I find that out on Thursday. Then the surgery is a go ahead for the 3rd. I am anxious about both.

I had my surgery on the 3rd also.
Did you end up having it?

Just heard today that my surgery is a go ahead (assuming a negative COVID test on Saturday) for next Tuesday. I am an American living in Belgium, and was surprised at the hoops you have to jump through to get the surgery
I had a gastroscopy and gallbladder ultrasounds, meetings with the endocrinologist, heart specialist, bypass surgeon, dietician, and psychologist. In addition, there was a blood test, urine test, and sleep study.
To qualify for insurance you need to either have a bmi over 40 or a bmi over 35 with an additional co-mortality of either high blood pressure, diabetes or sleep apnea. Luckily, I failed the sleep exam as the other co-mortalities were not applicable for me.
Gastric bypass is close to 6000 euros, but normal health insurance covers 5000 of it. Luckily, I have another insurance that will cover the rest.
What is it like in other countries?
It was just the cost of my deductible out of pocket we only paid $700

Hello everyone I’m new to the group. My surgery is in two days May 27th via gastric sleeve. I’m excited and definitely nervous. I see everyone is talking about packing their bag. I didn’t think I would need one considering I’m supposed to be out the next day. Can someone check in and let me know how you’re feeling and diet after surgery.

I'm 23 hours out of sleeve surgery. Had a hernia repair and gallbladder removed too.

I've been up and about for the last 8 hours. My pain is 1-2 with Tylenol, gabapentin, and the very last vestiges of the spinal block they used on me.

I've been sipping Water out of 1 ounce cups since an hour after I woke from surgery.

Two hours after I started with the water, i added in Protein Shakes. A little at first, building up as my body let's me.

I'm currently getting between 4-6 oz of water/shake each hour.

I had Dilaudid when I first woke and was in 6-7 pain. No more doses of that.

They've been giving me Tylenol, pepcid, heperin, and gabapentin.

I'm supposed to be getting released this afternoon.

If I was staying one night I would want an heating pad. Of course something comfortable to wear home. As soon as I got out of recovery I was still in pain in my shoulder blade area. Referred gas pain. Walking helps but I was still groggy, the heating pad was wonderful. I went back ti sleep and slept a couple hours. When I woke up I got up to the bathroom and walked some to help with gas pain.

What to pack for your surgery ? Suggestions?

I brought a clean change of clothes. Slippers for walking the halls. A long charging cable for my phone. A small bottle of biotene dry mouth spray. (Only needed it waking from surgery, but it really felt good at that time). Toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant.

That's it.

Yay! We can go through this together. I see you’re in New York. I’m in Cleveland. How are you feeling? Did you have to do the 2wk Clear Liquids? Did you slip up?

I’m definitely going to pack my heating pad. I see it’s a must have. Comfortable clothes to ride home in. I’m praying I’m only one day. My birthday is Monday I want to be home.

Cleveland yay! I definitely slipped up the day I was supposed to start! It's been ok, I've been distracting myself, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I feel miserable adjusting, it's times like this that I realize that food was such a crutch, and this procedure is definitely the tool that will help me.

How are you feeling?? So excited for us!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
