My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

This part of the journey can be really hard. Try focusing on the reward at the end. What really helped me also, was burying myself in Instagram stories of bariatric patients' progress photos and with those who have reached their goals. Their pictures are truly incredible, and so inspiring. I also agree with Bariatric Hero, try completing a shake first, then take your medications. Hopefully that will help. You got this! You are doing great! 🙂 Is your surgery Monday 5/2?

In all honesty, I may have sucked on a french fry from my kid's happy meal. Not one of my proudest moments. I kept repeating to myself during my week pre-op liquid diet..... "I'm shrinking my liver. I'm shrinking my liver. I'm shrinking my liver."

Honestly, this 1 week pre-op diet is seriously stressing me out. I'm not the least bit nervous about the surgery, but HOW is a fat person with a big stomach supposed to live with no food? ?? I get it, when I have the surgery. Most of my hunger hormone will be gone, my stomach will be super small, it'll be easier. But I have ALL my hunger hormone now and my stomach is anything but small. I'm eating tonight, but starting when I wake up, no food. None. Nada. Zip, zilch, zero. Oh boy... *sigh*

You got this!!!! stay strong

When you take them with a shake do you make sure to take it near the end of the shake? As in you have a full shake coating your belly already?? I take all my pills including my Vitamin with Iron in the morning with a shake and have made the mistake of taking the Vitamin before the end and I immediately vomited it up both times. As long as I take it near the end of the shake I am fine.

Yes I do. I learned the hard way the same as you the 1st day lol After that I take them with the last swallow or so of the shake, and while it's not as bad as day 1 when I took them at the beginning, my stomach is still really upset and I get nauseous. My meds are for MS, and they don't come in a liquid form or anything, and I can't skip taking them. So I'm worried about the rest of this diet and the first 2 weeks after surgery.

If you are on all liquids right now the post op diet is pretty much the same with the exception that some people can not drink a full shake right away. I was able to drink a full shake relatively quick after a couple days. And I could swallow pills the same day as my surgery. I did have one medication that literally requires to be taken with at least a 350 calorie meal to absorb properly and I had to ask my dr to switch me to another medication because that wouldn’t work out for a while post op. Maybe there is another medication that you can switch to temporarily IF you have issues. Which like I said I didn’t. I probably would’ve been able to take those a couple days post surgery with a shake. Possibly sooner with nausea meds??

I am having Gastric Sleeve surgery May 3rd and my doc has us do the modified liquid diet ( meaning, no food at all, no Jello, no strained Soups, nothing) for 14 days. It is awful, I won't lie, but once you get past day 7 or so, you kind of become numb to it all ; ) I have lost 19 pounds though, and hoping that helps with the surgery. And, it's good practice for the rest of my life after surgery.

The zero sugar jolly ranchers have been very helpful for me...I can have 4 of them a day and when it gets really hard they take me over that hump.

Good luck, we can do this!

That's what worries me. I'm already having a hard time with my pills with just shakes, so if I'm to do this another 2 weeks, I don't know what shape I'll be in when I'm allowed to finally have mush. Also, I have 1 medication that has nothing that can be substituted for it (Tecfidera for my MS. It's the strongest oral med there is for it, so I can't take any of the others, and the injections and IV infusions are too strong for me since I'm stable on the Tecfidera and my neurologist won't put me on anything stronger than this as long as my MS doesn't dictate a need for it). So that's why I'm so concerned. My stomach is nauseaus and actually hurts and feels like it's burning (not heartburt because it's not traveling up). I tried stuff to settle my stomach (pepto, Mylanta) and nothing has helped.

I would ask the surgeon if they have a nausea Med that will work but if not maybe the neurologist would consider the other medication if you need it just for a week or so.

If you are allowed - try changing to a different variety of shake. You may be intolerant of the sugar substitute in it. The tablets that I could not swallow, I crushed them. They taste vile. The others you are worried about, let the doctors figure that out. I dont know how it works in the U.S. but here in the UK, any Hospital doctor/ specialist will over rule a general practitioner and write a script for a months meds and write to my doctor and recommend how to go forward with my treatment. I hope it goes well for you

It's not like that here in the States. No doctor will overrule my neurologist because he's treating my MS and knows more about the meds needed than any of the rest of my doctors. Heck, half of them have never even heard of Tecfidera and my surgeon and his NP couldn't pronounce it LOL

I’m hoping those on here on the LRD are doing okay 👌 while I’m tired, I’m not dying as much as I thought I would. chicken broth is helping a lot, something hot to break up all the cold liquids is nice. I’m using almond milk in shakes or fairlife, Powerade zero or protein2O dragon fruit flavor, and chicken or beef broth. I haven’t needed to “chew” so I didn’t buy any popsicles or SF Jello. We are doing this!!!!

Im doing better with my liquid diet. Before the diet I had lost 22 lbs so Im hoping I will drop another 10 lbs (wishful thinking on my part) I have today, tomorrow Monday and then surgery Tues sometime. Surely I can make it 3 more days lol.

But honestly this chicken Bone Broth is for the birds literally.

What did anyone add to their broth to make it more tolerable after drinking do much of it?

I think 10 lbs is likely! I was told 12-15lbs on the LRD for my weight.

Since you have already lost all that easier to lose Water weight in your 22 pounds prior you may not lose as much as someone who just started with the liver shrink diet.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
