My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

Recommended Posts

Honestly, this 1 week pre-op diet is seriously stressing me out. I'm not the least bit nervous about the surgery, but HOW is a fat person with a big stomach supposed to live with no food? ?? I get it, when I have the surgery. Most of my hunger hormone will be gone, my stomach will be super small, it'll be easier. But I have ALL my hunger hormone now and my stomach is anything but small. I'm eating tonight, but starting when I wake up, no food. None. Nada. Zip, zilch, zero. Oh boy... *sigh*

No fun. My surgery center did not have this diet, I think it was higher Protein for three or four days before hand. Good luck, you will get through this, and it will all be worth it. Hopefully there will be some things that can distract you.

going online, doing some sort of craft, binging shows, catching up on sleep….

It’s a mind set change about solids vs liquids. Doesn’t make it easier but … The liquids will have all the calories you need so should satisfy a lot of your real hunger needs. Though unfortunately for many of us a lot of the satisfaction of eating comes from the actual crunch & chew of solid food but suddenly that’s gone so you start to crave them & feel head hunger even more. And the cycle & hellishness begins

Are you allowed any solids? Many have two or three shakes plus a solid meal of Protein & vegetables/salad at night which is easier to handle. I did that diet years ago for about two months & I swear I fantasised about eating that ‘real’ meal all day long every one of those 60 days. 😁

All the best.

Nope, 1 week of all liquids only :( I have 20 minutes until it starts, so I'm eating an apple, a banana, and a few grapes lol

It definitely isn't fun. I had an all clear juice diet for my pre op diet. I drank so much white grape juice. lol

Good luck, you can do it.

Many people say it gets easier on the third day. Hope that holds true for you!

Words are powerful, if you tell yourself its going to be a hell week, it's very likely to be exactly that.

Change your words, change your thinking and things may turn out a lot better than you think.

Its just a test, a pretty mean test at that but if you stick to it then you get the big pay out. After 4 days it gets easier but that's not much consolation now. Try and tough it out, its worth it in the end. Good luck

It does get easier after your body goes into ketosis around day 4.

but yea - this is definitely the worst part of the ordeal. I was actually relieved the morning I was rolled into surgery...

It's only two weeks of your life. You can do it, we believe in you. All good things come with a price and this is the price.

Well...I'm going to give you the bright side...

My pre-op diet was 5 weeks, with 5 Boosts everyday. No veggies, meals, Protein, meat nothing. 5 Boosts and 1 cup of broth a day. 5 weeks.

You got this girl! We are here for you!

You can do it! I had two weeks on my pre op diet. Some things that helped: get different flavor shakes you like. Blend them with ice so you feel like you're having milkshakes. Stock up on sugar free Jello and popsicles. I also sucked on sugar free jolly ranchers when I wanted to put something in my mouth. If you're allowed a small Protein meal a day, eat it really slowly. When I got sick of the sweet stuff I made vegetable broth with chopped raw scallions in it. It goes by so fast and if you just have a week, you'll be done in no time!

Yep this diet was the hardest part of the process for me and I was even allowed some food. Just have to keep reminding yourself to keep your eye on the prize And take it one day at a time.

remember it's to make surgery safer by shrinking your liver...you can do anything for 10 days! It'll be over before you know it and you will be on the other side 😊

Thank you so much, everyone. I know I sound like a whiny child, but not eating (when my issue is eating too much) is really hard. I had my morning Protein Shake and now I'm drinking a Protein Water. I'm having a protein smoothie for lunch and then another protein water later on. For dinner I'm having beef broth with beef Better Than Bouillon Soup base. Then I'm having a sugar free popsicle for dessert and 1 more protein water before bed. I REALLY hope keeping to this kind of eating schedule will make this week bearable.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
