I went twice my first week out, both were Milk of Magnesia induced. Try some of that ... you'll spend all the time on the toilet you could ever want. Not to be gross, but it'll be a "loose stool", which means no pushing.

Try the Milk of Magnesia, but be careful... I was so desperate I took the largest recommended dose thinking I'd need it... BOY WAS I WRONG. After that, I began to experience some regularity.

Hi Tomecia,

I haven't had the surgery yet but I would suggest warm prune juice. That's Big Mama's remedy for that. I'm looking forward to the surgery and hope this will be of some help to you.

I'm experiencing the SAME thing. Banded 12/10/07, last Monday and I haven't gone since before the surgery. I realize I'm on all liquids, but COME ON. I'm soo bloated, and my scale isn't moving anymore, but I'm barely consuming any calories. I'm going to try the milk of magnesia because this has got to stop. Also, the pain meds make you constipated. Glad you've gone, now what about me?!!!;)

Lord have mercy, I've been like clockwork. I take it you all didn't have to have the barium/swallow study post op? I can tell ya, the barium flushed everything ... EVERYTHING! But, I've been regular. Apple juice or apple sauce work, also.

I had the barium pre-op and Post-op Upper GI, and it still didn't do anything!!!! I just bought some Milk of Magenesium. I'm going to take it tonight, I'm so bloated and have this awful full feeling. I weighed 2 pds heavier then I did yesterday!!! This needs to happen SOON.

I found a good over-the-counter laxative - Miralax. You mix it in Water (can reduce dosage if you want). It doesn't get thick, and you really can't taste it. It seems to be gentle, too!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
