Surgery and Covid

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I just had my surgery on Tuesday. Recovery is going very well for me--except that my daughter just tested positive for Covid. She's young, so she needs me to care for her. I can't quarantine her inside her bedroom. It seems pretty likely I'm going to get Covid. Anyone have this experience so soon after surgery? I'm really nervous.

how young is she? Wear a mask in the house and make sure she is wearing one so she doesnt spew spit and cough across the room. The mask wont really prevent you from getting it but it will help minimize her from coughing it across the room and if possible stay a decent distance away from each other, Open windows, lysol spray, wipe things down. I got covid in Feb 20th and there are 5 people in my house, only 2 caught it from me, The rest never caught it and tested negative. I also have a nice big air filtration system in my bedroom but the virus is smaller than the filters capabilities but who knows maybe it helped.

Clean -clean -spray, wash your hands wear a mask at all times you have to protect you. Is there none can help you out ? In any case you live together and might have already got it and not gotten sick. If you got your free tests - see if you did catch it, I think can still get free tests kits. Praying for you n yours, I don’t think as bad as it was with other strains, but if have to shower 4 times a day do it. I always keep the Lysol going. Call your Drs too

Thank you both! I reached out to my PCP who is going to call in a prescription for Paxlovid for me just in case I get sick. Between the vaccine/booster and the antiviral, she's confident things will be okay.

Luckily my daughter just has cold symptoms, so her illness isn't severe at this point.

Fingers crossed.

When i got covid 2 months ago i tried to go get that medication and i qualified but the doctors refused to give me a script for it due to the side affects. They told me it was not worth it. Both a urgent care and the ER Doctor at the hospital both refused the script for paxlovid. (Pi$$ed me off too because the ER Visit cost me $700 copay for nothing) I ended up getting sotrovimab monoclonal antibody treatment the next day at a local Urgent care center that had it available and that treatment was free i only had to pay my copay for urgent care but they billed my insurance nearly $3,000 lol

Everyone I know who are fully vaccinated & boosted don’t seem to get it very badly. More like the beginning of the flu aching bones &/or a headache for a day or so & maybe a sore throat or cough. My nieces & nephews were playing in their yard after two days. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But it may depend on the variant & you are in a more weakened state due to the surgery. Mask up, be extra vigilant about hygiene, distance whenever possible. Fingers crossed you’ll be one of those who don’t get it even though surrounded by positive cases.

Hope your daughter has an easy run too.

I am my husbands carer. In this winter he got his second dose of covid. He was un to date with his vaccines and only got a mild dose. We didn't use masks or open windows, just too cold outdoors for that. We kissed and cuddled every night [ You don't know when its your last night do you ? ] I never tested positive for it and I was 8 weeks out from surgery. Its a lottery. I may have passed it to him and not had any symptoms. BTW I wouldn't want to barrier nurse my child. If they need you, they need you

I had it in January (so four months post-op) but really only felt a sore throat and very, very tired. I took quercetin with bromelain, Vitamins C and D, and melatonin every night per my doctor's suggestion (all things you can get delivered)

Thanks all for the advice! I tested positive today. It feels like a bad cold. I'm only seven days out from surgery, but my recovery has gone very well so far. Just focused on staying hydrated, which hasn't been a problem.

It's definitely a mental test because food has always been comfort for me. I guess it's a lesson I have to learn anyway.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
