Pouch/Jejunum stretched - Barium Swallow

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone had a barium swallow test done after gastric bypass surgery to check if their pouch has stretched or for any other reason? I had a barium swallow done as I suffer from LPR (silent reflux) where I aspirate non-acidic reflux into my throat and lungs. The results show that my Jejunum (small intestine) has stretched to the same size as my pouch.

Would love to hear from anyone that has had a barium swallow which has shown that not only has their pouch stretched, but the jenumum (small intestine) has stretched also after the join between the stomach pouch and jejunum. I have attached a photo from my barium swallow scan for your reference which shows that after the narrow join where the arrows are, my jejunum has stretched.

Wow! That’s crazy! I had a barium swallow done last week but I don’t know the results of it. Yesterday I had am EDG. They did these because I’m nauseous all the time and they want to look at my stomach.
The doctor mentioned yesterday that I might need a the one where they put that small thing through your nose and it goes down into your stomach and you have to drink when they get it down there to see if how you swallow is OK. That test was just awful! I think I’d rather have a colonoscopy🙃

I'm sorry to read about your LPR diagnosis. It's a serious issue for sure.

I'm not really sure how to reply to you about this, because I looked back at your previous posts and see that you had VSG and lost weight, then regained and then revised to RNY and then made a thread about how much fast food you could still eat and subsequent weight regain with RNY due to fast food choices. So obviously there was an issue two years ago (and probably prior to that) when you were still eating copious amounts of KFC etc... so I'm wondering if you reached out to your bariatric team when you realized how much you could eat. If not, why not? Perhaps they would've directed you to a therapist then. Please consider therapy. There's quite a bit of wls patients on this site that have sought therapy and are now thriving and overcame their food issues. Therapy is yet another tool just like weight loss surgery is that some patients need to be successful.

Best wishes.

I see your surgery was in 2018? Have you been nauseous all that time?

No I’d say it’s just been getting progressively worse for about six months. I actually puked in the Gastrologist office last week when she was talking to me!
but I did make it up to the garbage can in time. 🤦‍♀️

LOL, I know the feeling. I've been nauseous since the surgery, but I've found a way to cope with it--sort of, and pray that it is temporary...

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
