Shoulder Pain

Recommended Posts

OK...November Nymphs I have a question. I am still experiencing left shoulder pain. Now, I can't seem to figure it out because it comes and goes. Most of the time it happens when I am sitting and standing actually alleviates the pain. Now, I have read that shoulder pain could mean you are full but my pain is happening not when I am eating.

So is anyone having the same issue? Would love to hear from you. I did talk with my surgeon who indicated that it is possible that the band is sitting on the diaphram (nerve) that goes to the shoulder. I gotta tell you though it feels like I have a toothache and I have had to take pain meds more than once for it.

I hope it is not a permanent issue because I think I will have cut it off. LOL:omg:

I still get a twinge of pain in my left shoulder. It's barely noticeable but I'm aware of it. I think I read that some people have it for months or even longer. It's not gas -- it's referred pain. The nerves in the vicinity of the stomach stretch up to the shoulder so we're feeling in the shoulder pain from when they messed with our stomachs, if that makes sense. :)

Hollyberries, when was your surgery again? I had the same pain on and off I'd say for a month after surgery. Mine would happen when I was driving a lot and hungry, the combination - but I think it was mostly the sitting and driving. I'm not sure why it happened only in the car, but there you go. Now that I'm thinking of it, it hasn't happened in a while, but I have heard some people having it for a long time. It's awful, isn't it?

Holy smoke! When it comes on it is completely out of the blue. Wish there was some rhyme or reason to it. Funny things is it comes on when I have to go workout (LOL).

I also still get that pain ocassionally. It isn't too bad. It is actually more annoying than painful. I hope it stops soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
