Insurance issue!

Recommended Posts

Ok, so my husband started a remote job in Oklahoma where we live. The job is based in California. They are going to get us set up with Anthem-BCBS, somehow, although Anthem doesn't show that coverage is here. I guess my question is has anyone been in my situation? How will it go as far as getting approved for Gastric Bypass? Thanks! Malinda

That may be a issue if no doctors in your area accept that insurance. you may need to go to California to have the surgery. Best thing to do is honestly give their customer service number a call and see.

I can tell you my experience living in Virginia with doctors in Washington, DC but having Seattle-based BCBS coverage. Because certain employees were out of area, we just were able to use the other area BCBS providers. Honestly, it never was an issue for anything. But - I can't tell you that'll be the case here or for surgery (I did not get my surgery while there, nor was mine covered by my current insurance).

I'd confirm with the employer and BCBS directly how this will work not only for surgery but also the providers (including hospitals) covered under your plan.

I second contacting the insurance customer service rep. When you do, make sure your write down names, dates, times and pertinent info. I would also suggest having your husband's employer's HR person who deals with benefits/insurance on the line with you. This way everyone is in the know. I had an issue 3 days before surgery. My husband's employer is an international firm who is self pay but uses BCBS in upstate NY to handle the pricing/contract end. I live in the DC/Maryland area. It's convoluted but had HR and insurance on the line together to work things out. A tense few days but everything worked out.

My insurance is based in NC but I live in MA and I work remotely. I have a PPO (BCBS NC PPO). My MA doctors were covered. How would you see any doctor if you don't have insurance in OK? It seems like they need to sort that out. Have your husband talk to HR about this.

I have BCBS of Illinois (PPO) and I live in Colorado and work remotely. Everything here is covered and I don't have to go to any other state for anything. Definitely set up your BCBS insurance portal. You can find doctors in your network on there. If you can't, definitely call customer service.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
