Yesterday was my 1 month anniversary of quitting smoking. I am on the Chantix program as well. It's really not bad. Sometimes I get very nauseous. Some nights I have insomnia. Sometimes it affects "going" number 2. Just like the band, Chantix is unpredictable.

Quitting smoking is easy ... I have doe it 100's of times!!!!

I quit smoking about 6 weeks ago now - a month before banding. I have smoked on and off for about 15 years. Never a huge amount about definitely every day.

I have gone cold turkey and have no suffered at all, perhaps i am just fortunate or was ready this time.

I did it so I would be in better shape for the surgery ....

Making a good recovery, feel great, loads of energy.

I had my 2 yr quit anniversary yesterday and while the weight gain is what made me consider and go for banding, overall, it was one of the best things I did...I feel so much better....My band doc told me also quitting smoking made me a better candidate for the band...showed stick-to0-it-teveness....thats probably spelled wrong!!! Keep us posted and Good Luck...the first 2 weeks were rough and I think what kept me going was not having to start over again by "slipping"....make a "mantra"

I haven't smoked in over a week now. The Chantix is really working. I tried to smoke once and it tasted like shit. I am glad I quit.

I picked up smoking this past semester.... and its probably one of the worst decisions ive ever made. It suppressed my hunger.... but it also made me avoid people i didnt want to know i smoked, made me smell bad, was costly, and so on. Tonight... at 2am.... i smoked a cigarette after drinking a bottle of Water. I realized just how bad they smelt AND taste. I am giving them up for good.

Congratulations!!!! Supposedly it takes 21 days to break a bad habit, so you're almost there!!! Keep up the great work! :clap2:

I've been smoke free for about 3 weeks now with the exception of trying a smoke once or twice with no success. The Chantix is a miracle drug!

So do you continue to take the Chantex for the entire 3 months? How much did you smoke and for how long? Hubby has been a smoker for 20 years and he is up to 2 pks a day!!! He tried Chantex before but stopped after a couple weeks, I truly thing he was terrified to stop??? Like he will lose his best friend...kind of like me and food (thank goodness for the band)!!...it's has a lot to with the mental thing...

Congrats on 3 weeks no smoking, I know you will beat it!!!

Good Job juliegeraci! And everyone else!

I have been smoke free since 12-21-2007! My Dr. would not perform surgery until I was smoke free for three months.

The Chantix was a god-send! I have told anyone that would listen about how well it worked for me.

My PCP who prescribed it to me has been keeping track on his own and even though the Company says there is a 44% success rate after 12 weeks, His survey, of his patients, is 65% success!

I actually lost weight while taking this (7 lbs.)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
