Hi, I am 13 days PO gastric bypass. For the first 12 days I could barely drink a little more than an oz in 15 mins. This morning for Breakfast I was able to drink 11oz in 30 mins and not feel full. For lunch, I just had some Soup and I was able to eat 9oz in 30 mins. I don’t feel “stuffed” but I am having heart palpations.

Has anyone experienced this? is this normal ?

I think loads of us experience the very same anxiety whilst we're on a liquid diet. The initial jitteriness of your stomach from being cut open and hauled about settles down, and liquids slide right through your pouch and out the other side. I totally convinced myself my surgery had gone horribly wrong.

Please don't worry too much - as soon as you start eating more solid food you will fill up really quickly. Sounds like you're recovering really well :91_thumbsup:

For ME, i discovered i was suddenly able to chug a bottle of Water (400ml) by accident around the 2 week mark (i was thirsty and forgot i was supposed to be sipping)

Prior to that i was sipping my liquids from a 2 fl oz shot glass, probably getting in maybe 250 ml a day.

I dunno if this is “normal” but it happened.

So long as you aren’t in pain or get any adverse effects from drinking liquids, i figure its all good.

Your heart palpitations though.

For ME, heart palpitations means i ate too fast or too much and is the first sign of an oncoming dumping episode.

How about eating/drinking less at one sitting and see if you still get them? Then you could see if there is a co-relation for YOU.

Thank you so much. I feel better reading this. I feel like it was from me eating too fast and too much. For two weeks, I’ve just “sipped”. My “meals” take about 2 hours to finish. I got carried away today.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
