Clarification On Revision WeightLoss

Recommended Posts

Can somebody please help me….I’m reading so many different things on revision wls and I’m so confused! I know weight- loss is slower, but it’s been coming off pretty good for me so far (55lbs dwn) since Nov.8th. I’m stalling now for the 2nd week! (Frustrating, but expected).
Where the confusing part is how much weight I should expect to loose, my doctor told me I should loose a 100lbs, but my research is stating something in the area of about 60-70lbs, but it’s also stating something about my weight-loss from my previous surgery(btw it was the sleeve). So if I’m to understand correctly I’m only going to loose a total of 100lbs ,including my weight-loss from previous wls? I’m so confused…

all those numbers you've cited are just averages. You could lose more or less than those, depending on your level of commitment.

for example, the average weight loss with gastric bypass is 70% of the person's excess weight. That doesn't mean you, personally, are going to lose 70% of your excess weight. That's just the average - and with any average, you'll always find people who fall outside of that. We have people on here who only lose 20% of their excess weight- and others who lose 100%. It all comes down to your level of commitment. So I'd take those numbers you've been given or read with a grain of salt. Yes - they'll give you a ballpark idea - but they're only averages, and depending on how hard you work at this, you could do better..or worse...than those averages.

Everyone is different... Everyone. Revision is something later later on for many end up with issues for example severe heart burn that do the sleeve. Just keep working at it... The weight will come off if you stick to the plan. you may loose more than others or less. your surgery was not that long ago so you still have a decent way to go.

Thanks , that helps me understand some, I have a group meeting tonight and i’m going to ask the nutritionist if she knows anything about the reference to the prior weight loss from my previous wls.

They are averages and unfortunately like the rny, band, vsg... Etc. stalls are common for all of us. It depends on so many factors, like some people are not committed and will live on slider foods and their are others who follow their plan, and some in between who are able to find a good balance. From my understanding, it is your starting weight from your most recent surgery that you go by for calculations (not your sleeve surgery).

For me, since my revision to RNY (for gerd) in 8/21, it's been faster weight loss. I weigh less than at my lowest with the sleeve and am still losing despite hitting initial goal awhile ago. I find logging my calories, carbs and Protein extremely helpful to look for patterns to adjust, to help awareness, especially during emotionally difficult times.

Thanks for your input and I know everyone is different in their wl journey. I’m pleased with mine soo far just confused about the end results. The inches are coming off nicely also so I’m happy with my accomplishments thus far.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
