Hi all, I have been reading this forum for awhile and forgot about this thread. My surgery is Thursday and getting a little nervous. Not even sure why. It is kind of like can I do it? Will this this work? My husband is very supportive and yet could be my downfall...food addict like I have been and I used to be the one that got us both on track and then got tired of fighting it. Now I wonder can I be that get back on track person. Reading all that I have here gives me hope. 2 more days and guess we will see.

Hope you are doing well. I too just worked out my deal with TLC Edge and asked for Dr. Kim. Any comments you mind sharing about him / his staff? I'm a self pay and just want to make the best of the use of my funds.

thanks,

Dolores

Dolores you will love Dr Kim. I was really nervous about the whole thing. When I had my first visit with Dr Kim I took my husband with me. Both of us felt really positive after our visit.

Delores, My husband and I both really liked Dr. Kim, He seems very caring and knows what he is doing. I actually chose to do my surgery on a Thursday so he would be able to do it.

Good luck

Well Bonnie and I are both scheduled for the same day with Dr. Kim.

When did y'all find out the time of your surgery?

I thought I would hear today but so far nothing. Now I'm worried that it isn't going to happen. Who should I call about it? Dr. Kim or TLC? It is suppose to be Thursday and tomorrow is Wednesday. They said I would hear from them two days prior to surgery which I would have figured would be today.

I hate this not knowing can you tell?

Okay folks, I found out I go in at 11:30 so I'll be having a lazy morning. That's a long time to go without even a drink though. Any hints on how to get through the morning without a drink?

Hi Y'all,

Well I am now in the land of the banded. I think I'm doing pretty good so far.

I ended up being the last one of the day and didn't get home until close to 7:30, but I'm not feeling to bad. The worse part so far was the IV experience. By the time I got to the back I had been over 18 hours without anything so I was pretty dehydrated adn they had a hard time getting a vein. It took 3 times so that wasn't pleasant. I had decided that if the third time didn't work that maybe I should take it as a sign and not go through, but at the same time I was prarying it would go in and after a little work they got it in.

Anyway, I'm sitting here sipping Water and juice and ice chips.< /p>

Later,

T

T & Hopeful

Welcome to the "band"wagon.

Dr. Kim did my surgery 5 weeks ago and I could not be happier.

BTW I am down 35 lbs.

Y'all take it easy for a few days and don't eat too many Easter eggs.

congrats T!! How ya doin today? Hope everyone is doing well. I've been out west with my fam for spring break. Just got in this evening....we drove 3200 miles in 7 days! It was exhausting but AWESOME!! I was worried about my eating while away.....but I actually did really well and lost weight instead of gaining. That was a sweet surprise! 2 more weeks until fill #2, and I am really ready for it!

I am glad you had a good trip and it sounds like you are doing wonderful Tweenwaters. I am now banded. Mine was a little rough because of scar tissue from back surgery. It took 2 hours and an extra incision. I was home by 3:30 on Thursday and wow that night was rough. No more than two hours sleep at a time and moved from bed to recliner to get comfortable. I have walked alot though. Around and around my house my drive way down my alley, probably scaring every bird out there. I ran fever yesterday and still hurt pretty bad but Dr said becaue of how hard it was to get past scar tissue I may be more sore than average. Today is a little better. Glad to be banded though!

TexasT I am so glad you are doing well and now we are done! Can't wait to see what the future holds!

All of the ideas on here and lists of things to have ect have been great. I appreciate everyone on here!

Wow Cowboy 35 lbs, congratulations!

Bonnie, glad you are doing okay. I do have a little trouble at night getting a good solid sleep because when I move it hurts some and I'm only really comfortable on my right side.

Tweenwaters, good for you, glad you had a successful trip.

I'm doing good. I had a really busy day yesterday. I haven't had to take any pain meds so that's good and no gas pain. I think probably becaue I have been up and about so much.

Today I'm planning to go out to my shop and do some quilting, it's a long arm machine so I'll be up and moving the entire time.

The only thing that I sort of have that I think is probably normal is the feeling that I need to burp. I am having trouble getting in the liquids because I just don't want anything so I have to sort of force it.

Wow TexasT I am feeling like a wuss. I mean I have been up and around but certainly not doing much. Just hurts. I walk around, sit and lay and thats about it. I am sure hoping it starts to ease.

Well, I just typed a whole message and lost it somehow.

B, you aren't a wuss, we all respond different. Just like I have some major bruises going on and I never bruise. Even the 3 sites where they tried to do the IV are bruised. I'm thinking that may have something to do with the pre-diet and something I wasn't getting enough of.

Anyway, I can tell the swelling is better today. I have been able to get down more liquids today.

I really didn't do a lot today. I decided to read one of the books I bought for the recoup time and thought I'd kind of conserve energy since I'm planning to go to work tomorrow and I'll see if I make it all day. If I get to feeling like it is to much I'll come home.

I'm so looking forward to the mushie stage. I can barely tolerate the taste of these shakes.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
