That's so exciting that you had no pain or nausea and had such a great experience. Makes me feel way less nervous about my surgery with Dr. Gagner in a few weeks. I have heard so many good reviews for him. Do you have to stay in Montreal for a few days after surgery? :)

I hope you have the same experience that I had with him too! 💕 they transport you over to the hotel room in a wheelchair so you don’t have to walk that far. The nurses are right there at the hotel too so you don’t feel alone.

I’m staying one extra day in Montreal - Dr Gagner said I was ok to this Thursday so back home I go tomorrow. ☺️ My friend is driving me back to NB.

Well, I have made it home from the hospital finally. Got home and straight into the shower I went. I am sore obviously but all in all so far so good. Dr commended me on the liver shrinkage. She said my liver was barely hanging over the stomach so she was very pleased about that. Everyone said I looked gray yesterday but I got my color back today. I havent had much problem drinking yet. Just a small amount thats for sure! The gas pain for me was after surgery and lasted until this morning. Its not excruciating but it can be painful at least for me.

I’m glad all went well with your surgery. Great job on the liver shrinkage too! Hopefully things will continue to improve with the gas pains.

Day 3 of preop complete! It is definitely getting easier now that my brain and stomach are coming to terms with the new restrictions. I actually look forward to my Breakfast and lunch shakes. I bought some Better than Buillion (roasted chicken) and have been sipping that during lunch.

I'm still nervous about my liver not shrinking, but I'm down 5lbs so I think this diet is doing something lol

For anyone that is not on a liquid preop diet, what are some of the "normal" foods you have for dinner? Per my doc, I'm allowed to have an under 300cal Individualized Meal (ie Healthy Choice, etc) and a small salad. I had a salad still in the fridge from my Olive Garden food funeral on Sunday and when I say that I demolished it for dinner last night...it was so good

Well, I made it!!!! So I had my surgery yesterday the 3rd. It went well, but the gas pain was NO JOKE. It was really really bad yesterday. But I did walking a lot and today it's not nearly as bad. Passed gas a few times and it helped. I had a drain in one of my incisions, and it pulled on that one and the one next to it. They removed it before I went home this afternoon (about 3pm) but that's where the majority of my pain is. Well there, and for some reason my neck, shoulder, and chest muscles really hurt. Like...why? I can also attest that you definitely DO NOT want to drink anything cold. Warm, warm, warm is the way to go. Do I really need to tell you how I know? lol I was sent home with a blood thinner (Lovonox), Oxycontin, and Phenergan (anti nausea). And I have been so so so tired. I fall asleep at the drop of a hat. Anyway, that's my update. I'm tired so I'm going to take my 989462510th nap of the day.

Hi everyone. I had my surgery May 1st. It went well. I was supposed to be on the three week clear Fluid diet. In all honesty- I did three days and then gave in at least thee times- but the last 7 days I stuck to it completely. I didn’t drink the Protein Shakes as I didn’t like them. The surgeon was upset at first but after the surgery he told me everything was as it should be and went really well.

You are lucky. It’s great you are allowed to eat low cal meals. I didn’t have this.

Me either
Yeah, I was so nervous about the diet. I kept reading the preop instructions thinking it was a mistake because everyone I know who has the vsg was on straight liquids prior to surgery

Pre-op dinners. I’m having roast chicken and fish. Veg. Small salad. I feel like I’m coming to terms as well

I cannot sleep it seems. I may dose off for about 10-20 mins but thats about it. I have some oxycodone but I havent taken it yet for fear of nausea and nothing being my stomach

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
