Gastric bypass is set for May 16th. Hopefully that won’t get delayed. I’ve been having some stomach issues, and my primary doctor is wary about approving me for surgery until we find out what’s going on. I can’t wait!

Hi all! New to the site and I’m scheduled for to have the sleeve May 6th. Pre-op exam and COVID test were scheduled today and everything gets submitted to insurance for final approval tomorrow. Fingers crossed there are no hiccups or delays. Wishing us all safe surgeries and success!!

Hey there! Very excited to meet you and hear how it goes for all of us. Do you think we can lose as much weight with the sleeve as those with bypass?

These are things I think about when I can’t sleep. I’m getting mine in Mexico with OCC and while my family is supportive; my friends think I’ve lost my mind…😅

How long did everyone take to hear back from insurance? I just need cardiology approval (stress test is tomorrow) and my EGD on April 11th

So I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. My doctor submitted my paperwork on March 30th and I had my approval on April 1st. I'm not kidding. Nobody has ever seen it go that fast.

I'm hoping we can! With the amount I have to lose, I would be interested in the bypass but I have Crohn's Disease and my surgeon wanted to do the sleeve.

My surgeon said in general, sleeve patients lost about 10% less weight than gastric bypass. But he also said that's the average. He said he has seen patients who are really motivated and disciplined actually lost the same or even a little more. Depends a lot on the person.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
