Nifer72 49 Posted March 16, 2022 I had RNY 21 years ago, I'm scheduled for a revision from proximal RNY (standard one most people get) to a Distal RNY where they make the roux limb longer by bypassing more small intestine than they do on the standard RNY. I'm getting this distal revision done Monday March 21st (6 more sleeps! Yikes!). My Dr says he does them as out patient, which kinda boggles my mind (I figured at least an overnight stay), and I'll go home same day. Has anyone else experienced this? I know there aren't many distal rivisioners that I've run across.
cjwilson80 2 Posted April 7, 2022 Hi - how are you feeling, how did surgery go? I'm having my RNY conversion to Distal (duodenal switch) on April 14th. I saw your post and wanted to see how it went and if you can provide any information as to how you're feeling, what recovery is like, etc. Good luck, wishing you all the best! Nifer72 49 Posted April 19, 2022 Hi! Sorry I haven't been around much. Did you have a Distal revision or a revision to a duodenal switch (they are different). Anyway, I'm doing ok. I'm calling it the surgery that wasn't. So I did have surgery on March 21st. Dr went in and had to clean a bunch of adhesions and fix a hernia before he saw that things didn't look the way they should. It wasn't the normal, expected RNY anatomy. He couldn't complete the surgery without coming up with a new surgical plan. As it was a 1 hr surgery had already turned into 3 from the adhesions and hernia repair. As of right now, I go back to see my surgeon tomorrow to see what our/my options are and figure out the best surgical plan for me. How did your surgery go? 1 cjwilson80 reacted to this
cjwilson80 2 Posted May 5, 2022 Hi! I had a revision TO the Distal Bypass. I started out with the RNY Gastric Bypass, now I have a duodenal switch. My surgery went pretty good! No complaints, just sore from the operation, but it's better each and every day. Down 15lbs already, which isn't as much as I hoped for
Nifer72 49 Posted May 9, 2022 I hear that revisions are slower with weight loss. Just keep in mind, you lost 15lbs in less than 30 days! That's awesome!
