Heartburnnnnnnnnn

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I am 13 days out from my sleeve and the heartburn is almost non-stop! I am taking Pepcid every day, but the pain comes back about an hour after taking the medication. Laying down at night feels like lava in my throat. Any one else experiencing this, and if so what are you doing for relief????

Hello! Yes, it happened to me a couple weeks after sleeve surgery but it has stopped. I do take Nexium every other day or so. Hope this helps.

I had this problem over the Christmas period. I couldn't get any medication for the whole two week period. I had to sleep sat up for 3 weeks, it was dreadful. I was eventually prescribed anti acid / anti nausea medication. I take it early in the morning in bed so that it lines my tummy before I eat or drink. It solved all my problems. I hope you get sorted soon, contact your team

Talk to your doctor about using a PPI (Nexium/Prilosec) for a while. Most surgeons recommend a 2-6 month course immediately post-op to allow for healing.

As @sleeve-me-alone, most surgeons prescribe a PPI post surgery. The surgery stirs up your acid production & your tummy seems to continue to produce enough acid to digest the volume of food you used to eat not what you eat now. Over the counter meds usually aren’t strong enough. Give your surgeon’s office a call & ask for a script.
