Insurance Requirement Anxiety

Recommended Posts

Hey, so I am in the early process of the getting the sleeve done. I have two more "supervised weight loss" appointments and my anxiety is through the roof. As a requirement for my insurance, I cannot gain any weight. I go next week for my weigh in and obsessing over it. I was down 8 pounds, and now I am down 5 pounds, but I still have six days to go. And then I cannot gain any weight from the previous weigh in. Anyone else feel stressed about this requirement? The whole point of the surgery is because we cannot lose weight easily or even maintain the weight. Any advice?

My doctor told me that that was not going to be an issue for the approval when I was getting it. These preliminary things are just a loophole you have to jump through to get the surgery. I seriously doubt the Doctor is going to submit for approval if he thinks it will be rejected. I am sure he or she will make it work to get it approved. I think the point the insurance company makes is discipline. Why spend 20K to give someone surgery who does not have the determination to keep the weight off or get the weight off.

Very true, thanks for lessening my anxiety a little lol. And I have been dieting and changing the way I eat, so it shouldn't even be an issue anyways, but I am a worrier anyways. Thank you

Stress will do weird things to your body and I am convinced it will make you retain Water. Just be calm and be kind to yourself. Eat really healthy, Protein and salad with low cal dressing. Protein and non carby veg. Its boring but you cant fail. You haven't far to go now . Good luck and let us know how you get on

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
