Arabesque 7,414 Posted February 28, 2022 Not heard of this before. Have you contacted your medical team? Could be an infection or some surgical oesophageal swelling pressing against the larynx??? If they used a breathing tube during your surgery it could be swelling or bruising from that. But do contact your surgeon.
Recidivist 1,141 Posted February 28, 2022 That happened to me as well. I was feeling weak and exhausted generally, and I was having a hard time speaking at full volume. It eventually went away, but it was frustrating. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
River Moon 52 Posted February 28, 2022 (edited) I think it would be a good idea to contact your medical team. You're still healing so weakness is completely normal, but voice issues could be a sign of a bit more weakness. These surgeries leave us weak in the beginning. Sometimes when people have muscle weakness, the muscles in the throat can become weak too. This can in turn lead to a hoarse voice and even difficulty swallowing in more severe cases. Your doctor(s) can give you some tips of how to build up your strength, like types of Vitamins or more Fluid intake, etc. Feel better soon! And, congrats on this new journey in your life. It's so exciting! Edit: Also, Arabesque has a very good point about the breathing tube. Might be some irritation in there. Tony B - NJ 643 Posted February 28, 2022 Remember you did have something sent down your throat during the surgery and it may just be a little inflamed. I had a hoarse throat for a week or so but it ended up just fine. The device that goes down the throat is what they use to shape your poach so they can cut and staple it from outside the stomach. GradyCat 3,695 Posted February 28, 2022 The tube from the anesthesia? Just overall weak from having major surgery? Ask your surgeon's office just to be sure.
fourmonthspreop 510 Posted March 3, 2022 I had a weak voice and like "thick" sounding vocal cords for 5ish days post op. I teach vocal private lessons and sing...and my voice is still kind of "scarred" in my higher register 16 days post op. Doing vocal exercises when you feel your voice is mostly back to normal really helps a lot. vikingbeast 987 Posted March 3, 2022 It could be inflammation from the surgery. It could also be acid reflux (GERD). Talk to your surgeon's office.
