Kay_G_B 10 Posted February 22, 2022 I had the Gastric Sleeve procedure done almost a month ago. I've had no issues with the Full liquid diet stage, but when it came to transitioning to purees, it felt as though my stomach wasn't happy. It was suggested that it could have been the foods I was eating (too acidic, diary, etc) or that they weren't pureed enough. Other suggestions were that I wasn't eating slow enough. But sometimes, as soon as I took one bite my stomach would immediately start gurgling or I'd get the instant pain of acid reflux/heartburn.I am supposed to start "Soft Solids" on Saturday, but I fear with the trouble I faced with the purees...that I might need an extra week. I've had no issues with eating yogurt, Jello, pudding, or Soup (which is what I've tried to stick with since I know how my body will react). But with anything else I've tried, it is either the immediate gurgling or acid reflux/heartburn feeling. Is this something commonly experienced or something I should inform my doctor about?Kay_G_B 1 summerseeker reacted to this
catwoman7 11,220 Posted February 23, 2022 I'd mention it - if you're not on some kind of PPI, they may put you on one. A lot of surgeons automatically put all of their WLS patients on one for the first 3-6 months after surgery. also, not everyone is ready to move on to the next step. If your stomach is complaining, it's fine to keep at the previous step (in your case, purees) for another week or so before trying again. 1 Kay_G_B reacted to this
GradyCat 3,695 Posted February 23, 2022 I still get a lot of gurgling, especially if I eat too fast or drink with a straw because it allows a lot of air to get in there. I never did the puree stage. I did 2-3 weeks liquids, then soft foods, then regular foods. I skipped pureed because I don't care for that texture. I turned out just fine. 😁 1 1 Kay_G_B and rfranklin reacted to this

Kay_G_B My Doctor said it was OK to stay on certain phases of the diet until I felt ready to go to the next stage. If you are not ready to go to solids, you can continue soft or puree or whatever you are on. The important thing this close after surgery is to get in your Water and Protein. It gets better, hang in there. I had similar issues and now I have very few things I struggle eating. Interesting enough, I struggle the most with Broccoli and chicken Breast but I am ok with chicken thighs and cauliflower. It seems random at times but you just make adjustments and keep going forward. 1 Kay_G_B reacted to this
