Will I ever be able to eat again?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I got my gastric sleeve done 6 weeks back. Problem is, that if I am wearing a bra, it constricts my stomach/general area so much so I can barely eat one bite of food every 4-5 hours. That too when I move around a lot during those 4-5 hours - otherwise it just feels like it is stuck in my oesophagus. I know it is the bra’s constriction because eating is not that difficult when i don’t have it on.

My questions are:

1. Has anyone felt the constriction because of a bra as well? I wear a very loose sports bra and the band is tight at all.

2. Apart from the usual restriction that is expected after a gastric sleeve, does eating eventually get a little easier?

If you are having trouble eating more than one bite of food, you might want to call your surgery center. It's possible you have a stricture, which can be fixed.

You might also be eating too big of a bite, not chewing enough, or eating too fast.

I have heard of people having issues from their bras, but I think it was right after surgery (can't remember for sure).

I am able to eat more food at 5 months out than I could at 6 weeks out. That's a good thing, but I have to be careful that I don't eat multiple times a day because that could cause weight gain.

Hope you feel better soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
