Newyorkgal 7 Posted February 17, 2022 I’m 3 weeks post op and so depressed. I’m craving a double cheeseburger from McDonald’s. But can’t even eat because I get so nauseous. This sucks. How can I control my mind from wanting all these bad things?!!😭😭😭 I’m so mad and just want to cry. What did I do to myself. 1 2 SleeverSk, Dfidelman and Tomo reacted to this
GradyCat 3,695 Posted February 17, 2022 Okay, first of all there are hormones that were released during your surgery, so you're probably a little emotional right now. Second, did you think you were going to eat double cheeseburgers for the rest of your life? That part of your life is over. That's why you made the decision to get healthy and have the surgery in the first place. Third, the nausea should be over by now. If it isn't call your doctor and check to see why you're still nauseous. Maybe they can give you some anti-nausea medicine. Is it only when you eat? Is it all the time? Finally, talk to the therapist at your surgeon's office or through your health insurance. The mental part of obesity and hunger is the hardest part to tackle. Let somebody help you through it. 4 catwoman7, idk4w, Dfidelman and 1 other reacted to this
summerseeker 2,243 Posted February 17, 2022 Are you on anti nausea meds ? I have been told we may need them for a year. In the early weeks lots of us have buyers remorse a few weeks in and then as soon as we can begin eating more normally things improve. Being tearful is normal, we think we have ruined our life for a while. Hang in there, give yourself a big hug, we promise you that soon things will improve. I used to nibble on tiny slivers of cheese and these helped with the queasiness and it tasted heavenly. I had such a filthy taste in my mouth all the time. No amount of tooth brushing helped. Just do what you have to so you get through this healing stage 2 Dfidelman and MomRny88 reacted to this
Kia kaha 35 Posted February 17, 2022 Thank you so much for sharing your feelings. I am pre op and posts like yours and their supportive replies feel so helpful to give me a realistic insight to how things might (might not but…) go a little pear shaped after surgery. Having said that, I am sending you all my aroha ❤️, as we say over here. Noho kaha, Kia kaha, stay strong, be strong. 1 summerseeker reacted to this
oldandtired 238 Posted February 17, 2022 I'm going through the same thing--exactly. The doc sent me home with an anti-nausea patch, an anti-nausea pill, and when I called, still after 4 weeks of nausea, added a suppository. 😳 I have heard that nausea can linger for months. But the suppository worked for me. P.S. go ahead and get that burger....then just nibble at the edges. You will fill up on about 2 or 3 pinches...throw the rest away. Do not feel guilty, I don't. ShoppGirl 5,018 Posted February 17, 2022 For me I was a little worried about breaking up with my favorite foods and I needed to test the waters to see if I was going to be able to tolerate them. I tried tiny bits of pizza, Pasta, chocolate, etc., once it was medically safe, but early out. Some may say this is counter productive during the weight loss phase but for me I just needed to know that I would be able to have them again someday and I ate such small amounts that the calorie difference wasn’t really that bad. Anyways, I had been able to stay away from those things until 11 month out. But then I had a death in the family during which I turned to food again. I have been looking for a bariatric therapist in my area with no luck but if you have one in your area you may consider seeing them to uncover why you are craving McDonald’s right now. If it is like many of us and you have a form of disordered eating, unpacking that in therapy sooner than later will be your best bet to set yourself up to be successful. I’m struggling to take my nausea meds because i have to crush them.. and it makes me feel even worse. I gag every time that sometimes I don’t even take them :( I’m also having trouble eating. I try my best to eat small bites and chew well but I feel pain when I swallow. It sucks but praying for this to be over soon. ❤️

I believe it’s all about balanca and moderation. The crazy thing is that I’m not even hungry. I just crave fast food because I know it tastes good. And now that I’m feeling super down and depressed, I can’t eat my favs foods to make me feel better. I was so excited before surgery for this lifestyle change but as soon as I woke up I felt this deep regret. Hopefully it gets better🙏🏻 I’m praying it does. Thank you for your response. 1 SleeverSk reacted to this
SleeverSk 635 Posted February 18, 2022 (edited) It Does get better, that taste in your mouth goes away its from reflux, are you on nexium or anything for reflux ? if not that will help it may also help with nausea.it took about 2 to 3 months for that taste to go away for me. you will be able to eat your favourites again but you may not feel like it which is a good thing . I have started eating my favourites again (in moderation of course) and in the puree stage I had KFC mash and gravy. I had such a deep seated regret after surgery too, In fact I was a mess for 5 months, thank goodness I am doing really well now and you will too 💖 Edited February 18, 2022 by SleeverSk

I had acid reflux before surgery, so my surgeon advised me to get the bypass. I thought it was the sleeve that gave people really bad acid reflux. But yes I do hope to enjoy some of my fav foods again. Of course all in moderation like you said. Glad to hear you are doing super well 🙌🏻 Thank you for your response ❤️ 1 SleeverSk reacted to this

Thank you for your response ❤️ I was allowed to take any pill the size of a pencil eraser or smaller - which for me was all but two pills (the giant Calcium tablets - and one other that I cant' remember). So I got chewable calcium - and the PA at my clinic said I could hold off for a couple of weeks on the other one. Ta da! I never had to crush pills. So maybe ask your clinic? Thank you for your response. with the lack of hunger thing - take FULL advantage of that ! Your hunger will eventually come back (mine came back at five months out), and things got A LOT harder after that. It's so much easier to stick to the plan and lose weight quickly when you're never hungry and don't give a flip about food! So I personally would not cave and start eating fast food. Just eat according to your plan. it sounds like you're craving the fast food for emotional reasons - so I agree with others - find yourself a therapist who deals with bariatric patients or other eating disorders. If your clinic doesn't have one on staff, ask for a referral. the depression thing is common for the first few weeks after surgery because your hormones go haywire. Just hang in there...they'll settle back down again...
