tbh I am scared of Fiber supplements because of the warning about choking.. I know it seems weird but since the surgery a few things freak me out and choking is one.. since i cant gulp Water down with it.. does that make sense?

I guess a fear is a fear. I didn’t ever notice any warning, though. It’s powder that completely dissolves in liquid. Are you sure it can cause choking??

Warnings of Benefiber and Metamucil

Taking Fiber therapy without adequate Fluid intake can lead to esophageal blockage and choking. Do not take these products if you have difficulty swallowing. If you experience chest pain, vomiting, or difficulty in swallowing or breathing, seek medical attention immediately.

Hummm. Its hard to read two of the words on

there for some reason but I think that just means you have to be sure to mix it with enough Water. A fear is a fear though. I get it.

I get why you are afraid. After reading it I am still not afraid to take it but fears are real. It’s okay. Maybe ask your doctor next time you have a follow up. They may be able to explain how it works in a way to ease your concerns.

Magnesium Citrate will certainly get things moving. It's what I take the day before a colonoscopy. It available OTC where you would find Miralax, tums, etc...Its a liquid that tastes like very strong slightly salty lemonade (if you get the lemon flavored one). I don't think I would drink the whole 10 oz bottle though. Maybe just a quarter to start. Make sure you drink more Water because it causes your body to release excess water to your colon.

Short term, Miralax. Careful with laxatives, including teas with Senna leaves, some create dependency if used a long time.

Long term, double the Water intake and add Fiber supplements. Eat plenty of raw cabbage, peas, snap peas, tomatoes, blackberries, raspberries, apples with peel, etc.

I had to up my Water intake to a gallon a day to fix my Constipation issue. I take 5 of these gummies daily.

I was doing research on this the other day and found that Magnesium (Magnesium Oxide specifically) is helpful for Constipation and does not create dependency. I found several reputable websites that spoke about it. Here is a sample. Be cautioned if you already take any form of Magnesium or if you have kidney disease. From other articles I read, its not a very good form of Magnesium to take if you need to increase your Magnesium levels since it is poorly absorbed. This poor absorption leads to the laxative effect.image.thumb.png.3f3f9dd408757699b2879737f4f9b88f.png

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
