April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I had my mini gastric bypass (with Omega loop) on the 12th April here in Dubai where I live (originally from the UK though). Stayed one night in hospital and was discharged yesterday. Wow!! The pain!

I have 3 incisions, one of them my surgeon said I had weak core muscles and he had to stitch the muscle as he didn’t think they would knit back together naturally and that this would hurt for a while. My God! Every time I move it’s awful.

Im also feeling so low! Anybody else in this stage? I really am right now full of regret due to the lack of sleep, the amount of pain and just lack of energy I have.

I’ve been put on one week of Clear Liquids so yesterday I drank some chicken Bone Broth which I will have again today with my electrolytes, coconut Water and water.

my surgery was on the 11th. Yep the pain from the gas was pretty extreme at times. Just super tired now. I’ve just been looking at the before and after pics on this forum, they are very inspiring! Keep your eye on the prize my daughter said! Never look back!

You are so welcome! ❤️
and, no surgery date. I’m thinking that I wasn’t enough of a squeaky wheel and I fell through the cracks (3 weeks for the CPAP machine to be ordered) BUT, as much as I wish that Monday was actually my surgery date, I’m ok. I know that it would bother me if I wasn’t there 100% for my kids at school who are coming into the home stretch after 2 years of Covid-hell. Dh and I are cleaning as if Monday was my surgery and I’m going to see where we go from here date wise. I can take enormous pleasure and have peace of mind if I know my house is clean! 🤗

Your time will come :) It took me two provider appeals and one member appeal to get my surgery approved. I just kept positive and finally, my day is almost here! I totally understand about peace of mind as a result of a clean house. I have spent the last two weeks doing the same!

The first few weeks after surgery, all I want to do is focus on learning to meal prep for my new lifestyle and getting enough water!

My surgery is the 26th also.

That's awesome! I am the day after you, April 27. Today is day three of my liquid diet. Are you also on two weeks of liquids only? It hasn't been as bad as I thought. I bought a ton of different kinds of Protein Drinks to try and Shamrock Farms Rockin Protein is hands down my favorite!

You have infinite patience imho. I’m trying to remain positive, and so far so good. My surgeon’s admin is waiting on one document…the CPAP machine receipt when I pick it up next week…and my packet is ready to be submitted.

today I had a visit with my PCP to begin ‘documentation of weight Loss failure.’ I figure if I’m looking at mid June for surgery, I can use this time to jump through the only Cigna hoop that remains unaddressed. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It is worth overcoming any obstacles!! I failed at appeal so I changed my medical group and now my primary is in the next county over. Best 30 mile drive of my life!! I was able to see the surgeon I wanted to work with. I am a RNY revision. My surgery was 4-5-22. I am still on clear liquids. Bone Broth was a game changer, love Fond for variety of flavors! Found at Sprouts. While you wait for a date you might try a few new bari friendly recipes. And perhaps some reading on successful maintenance of the lifestyle. Create some non for ways to Celebrate milestone numbers. I wish you all the best! It is life changing!

4 days since surgery. I’m still so tired. The focus of my whole day is trying to get enough liquid down my throat. I went for a decent walk in the sun today that exhausted me, it was great to get outside. But on the upside no regrets, (except for a horrible panic in the-night on day 2 when I had a very different, Migraine type of headache and I panicked that i’d have a headache for the rest of my life) and the weight is falling off me, 2 kg since surgery. So looking forward to feeling fitter and healthier.

I feel like I’m exactly the same! Today is day 4, and the exhaustion is through the roof! I haven’t left the house yet but been done some laps around my house! Hopefully all this starts to shift soon.

im averaging around 1.5- 2 litres of Fluid a day, and this morning I decided to try some jelly which is nice to have a different texture rather than just clear liquid.

Day 1 after surgery getting the gastric sleeve, when they said expect nausea they weren’t kidding I haven’t been able to keep anything thicker than Water down, I woke from surgery vomiting and extreme nausea and discomfort. I was up and walking immediately which made the gas in the shoulders and chest tolerable I’m feeling a little defeated at the moment. I hoping I won’t have to stay another day in the hospital due to the having trouble keeping things down. How’s everyone else?

I’m so sorry you are so tired, but it’s perfectly normal. Your body burns 2500 calories a day just healing from surgery, coupled with the calorie deficit, of course you are at an energy deficit. You will turn the corner soon, listen to your body and give yourself the rest you need.
please keep posting…thank you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
