Hi NeedtoLoseWeight

Yay! Same date as me!

I don't have a liquid diet prior to surgery mine is 2weeks of 1000 calories a day.

I'm apprehensive about the post op 4 week liquid diet though!. Has your surgeon team given you an idea of what you can have liquid wise that will still fill you up?

xx

Oh yay. Can’t wait!
No they haven’t but I’ve got an appointment with dietitian next week and hopefully get an idea. I have bought some Protein Shakes and Meal Replacements to help with liquid diet.

Hello everyone, I just got told today my duodenal switch surgery is April 5th. I finally got my surgery date. It may be a while. But it will be here before I know it. My high Protein low carb diet starts March 22nd. Can't wait to get started. Can't wait to get to know all of you.

I dislike having to get my ducks in a row yet before surgery. Setting up my time off with HR, doing the last minute stuff that needs to be done. Otherwise, very excited to start a new chapter in my life. I've been overweight since birth, quite seriously. I was 2 ounces shy of 12 pounds. To be honest, I don't hold out much hope of never being overweight, but getting out of obese and morbidly obese categories thrills me. Don't get me wrong, I am in this 100% and plan to do my very best. Just hard to imagine me not being "me" if that makes sense?

I'll be praying for you that you get yours done in April. Where are you from and what surgery are you getting done for your weight loss? Congrats on getting this far pre-op!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
