Did anyone have nausea after banding?

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I went to pre surgery consult. He spoke of his last patient wanting the band removed due to nausea. I can take some but will it let up? I'm getting banded on 12-17-07 and starting to go through a fret and worry stage.

DNA:

I had nausea right after surgery over the first 24 hours. I think it may have been due to the pain medication as I have a very low tolerance for that. If you have nausea issues tell your surgeon so that he can give you all of the medication possible to try to counteract the nausea.

I haven't had any nausea issues since then.

Good luck with your surgery and weight loss.

Sue

I had terrible nausea right after surgery, for about 5 days to be exact. I never actually vomitted but came close several times. I thought it was due to the pain medication, so I stopped taking it. It continued and my doctor suggested that I could be dehydrated, because I only got nauseated when I moved around. I won't lie, it was aweful. Once my swelling went down and I was able to drink more, it got better. I haven't had any nausea since. It can be rough, but it was all worth IMO.

Had nausea only during and after coming home from the hospital. It was definitely a combination of two things:

(1) liquid pain meds--the dosage was set so high I cut down to 1/4 of the dosage prescribed and took it for three days.

(2) If you get juice after surgery, make sure it's diluted 50/50 with Water. I drank two 8 oz containers of cranberry juice and then realized what was causing my nausea in the hospital.

Other than that, no nausea at all. :)

I had nausea for a few days after surgery, and didn't want to drink much. Fortunately for most of that time I was on an IV feed. My banding is recent, and is slowly subsiding. When I first tried, I could manage 3 small sips before feeling bloated to the point of being very ill. After coming home, on the 2nd night, I either didn't count sips, or took larger sips of some vegetable juice, and wound up in pain and vomiting.

Drinking small in small quantity often seems to help, that and pain medicine. I still have occasional general nausea, and it will get worse if too much is consumed too quickly. It is amazing how quickly I feel filled after drinking almost nothing.

Everyone will have their own unique experience. I wouldn't let the experience of a single individual, turn me away from this very helpful surgery.

I was severely nauseated in the hospital and then have been a few times since. My doc said it usually goes away by 2 weeks post op and true to his word, it has. Nothing that would prevent me from doing this over though.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
